My brother uses this with his girlfriend who lives on the other side of the country. I would too if we didn't have a limitless long distance phone plan. It's pretty neat -- they're constantly talking on their computers...

Yea Skype is awesome!
I used it to talk to my cousins in Poland all the time during the summer.
I heard the video chat feature is pretty neat too, and that the video screen size isn't that small, like aim for example.

bump! :P

I just downloaded skype tonight and I already like the program's layout. Tomorrow I'm shopping for a mic and a cheap (but okay quality) webcam.

If anyone has any suggestions for a good webcam, let me know. I usually look at the Logitech section of my computer hardware department for stuff and such. Not sure if that's alright... :?

PS: PM me for my contact!

Your next task: Go to the bathroom.
Wash your face.
Put your shoulders hunched upwards.
Look really, really slowly upwards towards the mirror like in the movies
And slap yourself in the face.
With your game face on.
And go shred with jim.
It'll work, trust me.

I'm using Skype too. And this is the problem that I've been having with it:

The recipient on the other end of the line usually can't hear me well enough... the sound is usually very crumbly.

Is it my computer that's causing the problem? My connection? Both? Please let me know if you've dealt with this before. Thanks in advance!

I just read this from the installation manuel of my webcam. I'm not sure if its true or anything, but maybe your mic is really close to your speakers (within a 12inch radius), and that they are angled toward it and not away from it. That could be the cause of any muffled noise.

Maybe someone can offer better help than I can? I mean, I just installed my webcam 15 minutes ago... :?

Hey Sergey,

Audio quality issues on VoIP calls can be caused by several different things.

-high CPU
-low available bandwidth
-your provider is doing something to the traffic
-some other application on your computer is messing with the outgoing stream

Are you calling another Skype user when you have the problem? Or are you calling something on the PSTN (cell phone, land line phone, etc)?

What do they hear?
-Is it really quiet?
-Does your voice cut out, or get distorted in some way?

I have no experience using Skype, but I work with Cisco VoIP products every day.

I don't visit the forum that often these days, but if you want send me an email and I'll help you out. ricker15_at_hotmail_dot_com
