Breaking in a Crocheted bag

yes I know they are not for freestyle per se. We plan to pick up a sipa sipa for just screwing around in an "old school" circle. How would you go about breaking on of these things in so plays the best. This thing is more for kicking and just some of the old school things we're all used to from the circles of years ago. If we want to get fancy we'll break out the abshires and the like. That being said, what do you think?

I used to literally treat it the opposite way I would a footbag. I would constantly grind it as hard as I could against the ground with my foot, and it would slowly loosen it up over time. After the spaces between the crochet stitches get a tad bigger, try pushing out the beads one by one. That works too.

Yeah, you don't have to worry about being nice to a crochet bag for break in. To break it in fast, just treat it like utter shit. I found the most effective way is while the bag is on the ground, just smush it against the ground with your foot. Like, grind the shit. Back and forth. REALLY hard. It'll break in instantly.

I just cut a whole in the bag, and removed 60 percent of the beads, and then sew it up.

I usually dropkick it, use a hammer and smash it, throw it in the middle of a busy street, and use a lot of heavy-duty fabric softening agent to wear out the cotton.

thank you. Yeah, they are not great for footbag. But considering I have friends that see me with a real shred worthy(abshire, footfight, etc) bag and wanna play and I look at them like they're crazy. I figure, if I can use this sipa sipa I ordered as a way to get them interested in footbag, eventually, they will want to play the sport not just kick the bag. As you can see, there is a method to my madness, you pretty much cannot kill a crochet.

I agree with your thinking, regarding keeping a more replaceable footbag around for getting beginners into freestyle, because they mistreat bags so much. However, I recommend using a Mr Sandman footbag for beginners who want to find out about freestyle. Crochet bags are just too bad. Mr Sandmans are cheap, replaceable, and broken in from the get go.

Yeah, everyone loves playing with my sandbags at school, because they are more controllable. I just tell them no chicken skratches. Everyone can kick with it better and if your up for it, you can do toe stalls.

And sandbags are only a couple dollars more?

they don't want to freestyle, they want to just kick, thus the crochet. fact is they can't kick a great deal, and I feel that that is important to freestyle. Thus, unknowingly I'm gearing them up for it. The Mr. Bags will be broken out. Just later, when I feel they will respect them and be able to use them to any effect. Thus again, all signs point to our oldschool friend, the crochet.

This sounds more thorough than using a crocheted bag if you ask me. At least with a Mr. Sandbag you'll get more direct kicks with its size and feasible weight, than a crocheted bag that's hulking huge and drives people running all over the place to kick it. Toe pick-ups, although I strictly wouldn't advise them to, can be done with their own Mr. Sandbags if they're careful (plus they're cheap and a few dollars more than a huge crochet).

Mr. bags are not a "renewable resource" they would be absolutely killed by players after one circle. I'm looking at this from strictly a straight kicking standpoint and the fact they can be toe scrapped, stepped on, stomped, punted, etc etc etc. you are looking at it from freestyle standpoint and mind, think of it from a circle kickers point of view.

My Grandma makes the best crochett bags ever and you can brake them in in your hands in about 30-120 seconds. I sell them for $5 each. Any color you want or any color with a single stripe.
