I just got my all black lavers and have already decided i'm not going to mod them. They're too damn nice to mess up for me. I'm just going to keep them factory until they get beat up enough and then i'll mod them.

the best I've used have been nike presto worlds (much like a climacool with a bigger natural toe zone and a more solid inside) and also, NB CT520.

I have those prestos. They are a pretty nice shoe indeed. Mine were a tad too big because i have narrowish feet so it was too easy for me to roll my ankle in those things because the out material provides NO support because of how flexible it is so i stopped wearing them to hack.

Does different lacing count as modding? If not, then I don't mod any of my shoes... I just use Lavers... With my own laceup... I think they're great... NB 766 (Standard issue'd running shoes in the Gaurds) arn't too bad if you don't have anything else though... A bit less mesh than I'd like ,but they are decent... Bah, I'm just trying contribute.

i think lavers are pretty good out of the box, but to make them better you have to mod them =)

There are people out there who aren't that hardcore but still want to play. Many of these people would change the lacing on their shoes but not much more.

Personally I find that the newbalances play well unmodded.
