Attack of the Newbs: We are the future, hear us roar!!

Post by forgetmenot220 »

Ok, so I had this idea while browsing the blogs. I noticed that there were plently of pages devoted to the experienced kickers, hard-core shredders boasting about their new 20 billion add kicks. Though I found them very interesting I was looking for a place for newbs to come together and boast about our .05 adds (come on, those are cool too 8) ). So here we go.

This blog is a place for newbs (like me) to get together and talk about our trials, tribulations, bood, sweat, tears...but most of all our progress. :D . We are the future of the sport...hear us roar :!:

Have at it!!

i guesss i can be considered a newb, even though i am almost up to titless runs ;) yeah im a newb i guess...so yeah i guess i wanna put a post in this blog about my current shred ;)

Last night:
me and kyle hewitt had a first outdoor shred of the year on a basketball court with 2 feet of snow on most of it!

there i landed Butterfly>SS clipper>Butterfly ;)

one of the few times ive landed it

i also got a new record of clipper which is 11 now

AND i also landed a stepping!(i think) and it wasnt as hard as i though it was it was sweet!

my goals now: work on flipside EVERYTHING(as always) and to work on infinitys! ;)

there that was a sufficient post i think!

I think I've fallen in love

Post by forgetmenot220 »

 I think I have fallen in love with a very hot man named Mr Sandbag. ::swoon::

I haven' t been able to post for a couple days due to the fact that our campus has something called "unofficial st. patricks day" which equates to a campus wide party that lasts from friday through saturday. Ahh good times.

More importantly, I had a really good first session with my boyfriend yesterday..short, but good. Eric's friend from highschool was in town for unofficial so we ended up hanging out with him and our friend Kevin who all shred. So I watched them kick for a little while (which was an amazing experience FYI) then got into for a bit myself. I hit toe stalls on both sides :!: I never tried them before, but with some good tips from Eric I was able to hit both sides. Still work to be done, but all in all I think it's a good start.

After I hit the toe stall we worked on my inside kicks which I was really happy with. I actually surprised myself so that's always good.

So yeah, the session was really fun. It was the first time I got to kick with my new Lavers and a Mr Sandbag. Everything seemed to come easy and like I said I think I'm in love.

Ok that's all for now. I have massive amounts of homework to catch up that I've neglected this weekend so I've got to do that. But hopefully I'll find some time to put a little more practice on my stalls and kicks.

Peace and newby love,

only one

Post by forgetmenot220 »

Yay for being the only one posting in here... hey come on guys, where did you go?

Either way, I had a good session last night (today was hard core studying so I didn't have time to kick). I worked on my toe stalls and inside kicks. I also went from a toe stall into balancing the bag on my head (not sure if that's even a move, but I saw my bf hit it and thought it was cool). I worked on that for a little while getting it from a toe stall to the center of my head then to the right side of my head. I wanted to get it all the way around but still can't. But something to work towards right? I got my toe stalls down kinda good too, now just heading towards consistancy.

I'm also excited about tomorrow. My theatre show opens tomorrow night so between that and catching up on hw I'm going to be kinda buisy, but I have a scheduled session tomorrow with Eric so I'm stoked about that. I'll let you (you being anyone who's actually reading this) know how that goes. I'm just excited b/c he's a really good teacher and I'm sure the time will go a long way.

Well that's all for now. Please, if you're a noo13 (newb) reading this blog post and let me know how you're doing. I'd love to read about you're progress.

Peace and newby love,
Tricia

Cool. I can't even hit a flipside clipper more that 3/10 times. Good work training both sides.

I'm 16. I'm new. I've been shredding since early Feb. Dave Clavens is teaching me. I just got my lavers friday and I love them. I have a mr. sandbag and a sandmaster(don't like the sandmaster that much) and a mosher bag on the way(money went out yesterday).

Lets see. I've got most of the stalls down, even though clippers always need work. I've gotten flip clipper>op clipper a couple times and three same side strong clippers consecutilvely and two same weak side clippers consecutively(gotta work those clippers).

Others I've hit:
Mirage(both sides), ATW(both), Legover(both), Pickup(both), Butterfly(both but weak on left), clipper pickups(both), clipper>far legover(strong side), clipper>mirage(both).

Soon to be in the hit list tricks(hopefully):
whril(i got it more like a kick so I don't count it), reverse whirl(kick like whirl), double legover, clipper> close legover, infinity(kick like whirl), maybe paradox mirage and drifter.

So I guess I'm doing mediocre for playing for about a month.

Keep up the practice.

Grrrrrrrrah! I just finished writing an 8-page analysis on deodorant commercials for my TV society and culture class. Talk about suck. Now I finally have some time to try out my new lavers!

I have circle kicked for about 5 year or so. I used to see people doing crazy freestyle in the park in San Francisco, but never really knew what they were doing or what the difference between freestyle and circle kicking was.

A few weeks ago I found my old dirtbag and started kicking again with my friends. Thats when I found this site. Since then I have gotten some mr. sandbags and lavers (they arrived yesterday!). I haven't had much time to kick over this last week since I got both my mr.sandbags and my lavers though because I have been working on schoolwork.

As for tricks... I can't hit anything. I can do inside, outside and toe kicks with both my right and left (although I am better with my right) and i can stall on the toe, the inside and outside of my right foot and on the toe of my left foot (sometimes). Right now I am just trying to get more consistent with my kicks and basic stalls before I move into harder stuff. I find myself getting frustrated a lot though... but when I do hit the stalls from toe to toe to toe to toe it feels awesome. Any suggestions on how I could improve?

You know I actually got accepted to UCSC and seriously considered going there. Posts like these, I'm glad I didn't, LOL.

1) Practice practice practice! Drill your basics. Trying doing Toe > Op Toe x 25. Get it to where you can just call on your muscle memory to do toe delays and you don't even have to think about it. Then pick a few 2-add tricks and start attempting them. Suggestions would be ATW and Clipper first, then mirage and legover next.

It's normal to get frustrated. But keep working at it. Once you hit your first 2-ADD it will be a great feeling, and all that toil will have paid off. There is nothing in the world comparable to landing a new trick in footbag. It is so gratifying that is why we put in the hundreds of hours of practice and keep doing it.

2) Meet up with Fletcher, Jeremy and Emily and shred with them. You are SOOO lucky to have local experts who can show you the ropes. Experienced players can give you pointers and the motivation to keep you practicing and progressing.

It's great to hear about all of your progress. Props to everyone! It's great to read about your progress, it gives me something to set my own by. Having just started (literally) I'm glad to have something to work towards.

I didn't really kick today as was a really crappy day and didn't feel like doing anything, but last night's session was awesome goodness. Eric and I kicked at the armory (it's an immense building on campus with a huge inside track). The session lasted for about two hours during which I got my toe stalls down better and worked on my inside kicks. Eric helped me work going from toe stall on one foot to the next, and tried inside stalls and clipper stall, but that didn't go so hot.

Yet, I have to say, the most exciting point was when I hit mirage on both sides :!: I am leaps and bounds away from being able to hit it all the time, but I can't even explain how excited I was when I hit it the first time. It's my first two add, and I was def. stoked :!:

Well that's all for now. I should be kicking with Eric again tomorrow after class so I'll let you all know how that goes. Thanks again for participating in the newb blog you all, keep up the good work!!!

I came home from school and realised that i cant live a day without a session. So i called my girlfriend who has an old bag.I came over her drank some tea and had a nice conversation, she gave me her bag.To be honest it's very bad but still better than nothing!Came home streched and began to shred.Today i practised my clipers most,im geting like 1/3 of my clips on both sides.
Tomorrow im going to beg the teacher to give me back my bag. Also tomorrow we are celebrating Zenja's(the girl who gave me the bag) birthday im going to present her with a nike sandbag :) i hope she will be happy. She started doing footbag some time ago and is learning her basic kick's and stalls. When good weather comes we are going to shred together outside :) i will be her teacher haha even though im a newb myself but im
sure it will be loads of fun!And i dream of doing tiltless runs in a month or so i hope with my intense trainings this dream will become reality!

Even that my bag is missing im glad with this day

I kicked last night with Fletcher and Emily for 2 and a half hours. It was the first time I really got to use my newly modded lavers and I found they make a HUGE diffrence compaired to the skate shoes I was using before... as does wearing shred shorts. I hit 13 (or maybe it was 15...) alternating toe stalls which is my new record. My timing is still a little off but once I get home from school today I am going to practice and see if I can get it down.
