What changes should be done to the footbag.org forum? Step-2

Post by DoctorJay »

http://www.footbag.org/forum/viewtopic. ... 4427#24427

Hi,

this is a brainstorming concerning the question:

What changes should be done to the footbag.org forum?

Please tell us what you think.

This brainstorming will be the first step.

Do not think too much about your idea and just post it.

Valuations are prohibited in this stage of gathering ideas.

Thanks in advance for your participation!

Please post in the thread on footbag.org, if this is a possibility for you.

Is there a way that instead of having the .org forum, footbag.org could just link directly into modified? I'm not talking just having a link to this website, but instead of where the footbag.org forum is embedded there would be modified embedded.

Am I making any sense?

Here's some pictures of what I mean.

If that's the case then maybe people who post here need to suck it up and move over to .org. However, I would like to hear some reasoning, as well.

Aren't the .org colors the same as modified? Oh, but I guess you can change the colors here.

I think it needs less newbies, or rather more experienced players to compensate for the floods of newbs. The problem is that everyone is happy over here where there isn't a flood of "What do you kick to??" topics to try to avoid before you get to the real discussion. I dunno how to fix it. *shrugs*

Reasoning?
I just can not imagine Steve Golberg relinquishing the forum on .org and replacing it with a direct link to modified.in. This is for many reasons, and one of them is no doubt for the longetivity factor that .org has and that modified does not (esp. in light of the recent ca to in change).

Yes, but the fact that modified actually changed web addresses and everyone made the transition smoothly is a testament to future longevity of modified. Also, if footbag.org owned or partly owned modified, these little problems would most likely be reduced.

If there was some way to transport all of the threads, information, and profiles from modified to footbag.org, I would gladly switch over. But as it is, there are too many cool people on modified and too much great information for me to just switch over to footbag.org or to even spend a chunk of my time on .org.

The reason I post on modified semi-exclusively is not because of what's on/not on .org (newbs, lack of people, etc.), but because of the great things on modified. So, to answer the question:
What changes should be done to the footbag.org forum?
Honestly, transport all the things on modified to .org. I feel this is the only thing that will attract people on modified.

I think it would be best if the 2 forums were combined into one... that would make things better for the nebs on forg, and easier for everyone on modified.

If this is never going to happen, then we'll have to come up with another solution. I'll bet that alot of the newbs just don't know about Modified; or they think that it's only for a certain class of people or something like that... if we were to just post a lil over there telling them all join Modified, I'll bet that at least SOME of them would...

I'm just shooting off an idea.

keep it real

Thanks for this Ben that is exactly what this thread is for.

Later there will be a discussion then we will sort the proposals then we will vote and then we will write a letter to Steve or Allan.

Just a note:
I can remember that it is not possible to implement the whole database because footbag.org is filled with lots of names and member profiles and so there is no chance of simple fill in the database.
Otherwise I do not want to talk about things which are unknown for me so maybe one of the mods here or Allan can enlighten us.

Moreover it is just a brainstorming to gather many ideas and not to discuss one idea!!!

Thanks for all the ideas up to now .

2 things:
1 re-enable personal messages
2 create a .org footbag chat like modified has :!:

I set up http://modified.footbag.org/ a while ago to point to modified.in, but nobody on the Modified end ever set it up to work properly. :-( It would be good if we kept Modified its own separate community for now, but had it live on a permanent URL at footbag.org to help us get to the next step at some point down the road.

Steve Goldberg

P.S. And that's part of the problem. Nobody really "owns" modified so when big issues arise it's kind of hard to actually get to talk to anyone to resolve them.

I vote for this. ^^^^

It would be killer if modified and footbag.org were under the same banner. So, Steve has been totally awesome (as usual ) and took care of his side, we just need the modified side to get on this wagon. Can this be done? If so, how?

About improving the footbag.org forum:
2 things:
1 re-enable personal messages
2 create a .org footbag chat like modified has
These would be a good start.

I think another important thing to realise and something I'd like to really work on is the fact that the .org forum concievably can be a forum for the IFPA and can have some legitimacy. Modified is obviously not connected to any footbag related organisations so is a much better place for informal discussion and for n00bs posting etc.

I think at this stage the .org forum is fairly uneffective and it's much better to send most of the people to modified. I think the .org forum could become a very important and significant tool for communicating amongst the footbag community but I also think modified is a much better place for less serious discussion and for a feeling of an online community - as opposed to .org which should be a place for the footbag community - I hope you understand the differences.
