Why the Greats are so Great

Post by Splint »

Because they spend more time actually practicing than they do online talking about it. Seriously, how often do any of the best players come around getting involved in forum discussion? Rarely.

I love that people are so active on modified, but I also wonder how much better everyone would be if there was more practice and less chatter about it.

Just a thought in reality... :D

There is alot more to it than just not posting on modified.... ALOT.

In fact almost all the greats have posted a comment or two. People who are good get criticized alot more, so I don't blame them for leaving...

I practice as much as my legs let me. I think I would actualy be better if I practiced less and whatched more videos on line.

When I'm not kickin I'm on modified at school. I like to check modified for any new content. When I need help or advice on something I ask modified.

Ya, modified doesn't take away from practice time. Usually I've already practiced during the day and then I come on modified when I can't play anymore.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

The greats are great because of their instrinsic combination of traits that allows them to be that good. Determination, mental disposition, understanding of the game, discipline, body type, spare time, interest, confidence, self esteem, critical thinking, etc., etc... Just some of the many factors that come together to make a great player great.

i agree i dont think that modified takes away from practicing at all (for me atleast) because the only time im on modified pretty much is when im at school, where essentially i cant shred. Also because of modified i've learned a S#$^! load of stuff that i would enver have learned if it wasnt for modified, thats my 2 cents...now the reason i think the greats leads down to one thing IMO

The only time I talk on modified is when I can't play footbag, otherwise I am out there practicing my ass off.

Flat ankles are a function of proper use of the hips and knees. All the good players user their knees and hips. Now watch as this thread gets hijacked by kids talking about their poor ankle flexibility.

You forgot to mention the most important thing, genetics. I don't care which way I turn my hips, or how I bend my knees, my feet/ankles will never be parallel with the ground. After 2 years of trying to make my ankles flat without much results, I finally accepted the fact that I'll just have to work harder at clipper tricks than people with flat ankles.

I would say for me, I spent time on modified that I should be using to shred. But that is only because of responsibility, if I didn't have the job of moderating the forums and organising the online competitions then I would post on modified a lot less...

But then again, I probably still woulden't play footbag, I would just take up online gaming or sleeping or something again.

I wasnt using it as an excuse for not being that greatest. Im happy with my ankle crank, although I wont be 100% happy unless they are like vasek/felix's crank.

Ofcourse, ankle crank isnt the only reason. I think living near good players is a big help.
Hopefully back one day.
