My school is getting on my nerves!
My school is getting on my nerves!
I started freestyle about 2-3 weeks ago. Before that, nobody even cared about footbag/hackey sack as everyone else calls it, but now that im getting good and need more practice, my school (middle) is starting to stop us everytime they see us. My core classes (science, math, etc.) take them up if they SEE them. I mean come on! I got one taken up for switching pockets! Then, In gym, we weren't doing anything that day, so I asked if we could play footbag, then he smarted off saying "I dont even know what 'footbag' even is!". I then smarted off saying it was a game where you kick a bag with your foot, he told us yes, so we went on the floor and started. About 10 minutes later, he comes over and tells us he didn't say we could and "confiscates" my bag. I went back to the gym at the end of theday and have to tell him that I knew he couldn't keep my property and he said "Am I gonna have to call your dad?". I knew my dad wouldn't let him keep it so In response I said "Sure, go ahead"
About a day later, I was shredding on a little area that we wait for the bus at. There were two buses waiting, myne and another one. I started and about 5 minutes later, a teacher walks up and takes it off my foot while i was doing a inside stall and tells me I couldn't get it back until the next day. It was 40 minutes AFTER SCHOOL!
I was thinking about starting a club, but its a little late in the year, plus I doubt the principle would stand for it. I have a feeling there gonna outlaw bags at our school.
(Luckily its my last year there, but i still have 5 weeks of school to go so I wanna enjoy it since I'll be moving hay in the summer)

My school is also very stupid like this, but now that I have shown them some crazy freestyling , they don't bother me anymore. It has been aboud 2 years now since I started freestyling and my school is use to it. They don't really care anymore, just give it some time, and try to make them understand what its all about. Just don't give footbag a bad name and cut classes and play and stuff like that. Don't make them completely hate the idea of footbag. I hope it works out for you!

Anz it has everything to do with footbag you rascal, teachers outlawing footbag at schools is one of the biggest issues facing footbag!ana_ali wrote:Umm... I'm sorry for you. But does that actually have anything to do with footbag? Nnnno. Your school's rules just seem to be dumb.
In my opinion highschool is the most significant part of your life for getting friends into footbag! Kids have all the time in the world and they are around eachother all day, if one starts doing something cool (like footbag) the rest will follow like sheep!
If you go to highschool you should do all you can to shred in your lunch hour! It's your best chance at getting ur mates into the sport!
Chris, I think the best way to deal with an issue like this is go stright to the top of the food chain. Teachers are just cronies that will do anything to make the principle happy. Arrange an appointment with the principle to discuss the benifits and the seriousness of footbag as a sport. If you can show him some footbag videos from competitoins and tell him that footbag has national and international competitoins and is just as legitimate a sport as soccer or rugby, hopefully he will understand and will write you a note so you can play without having your bags taken by teachers.
HOWEVER, Chris, you woulden't be surprised if your teachers took away a soccer ball from some kids kicking it round in class or in the halls or during class, or even if they had the soccer ball in class, so don't be too surprised if the teacher takes away your footbag when you use it or have it out at similar times. It's good to play footbag, but only at the apropriate place or time. If you were getting in the way at the bus stop or were indanger of kicking someone then it's probably pretty reasonable to have your bag taken by the bus duty teacher, if someone was kicing a soccer ball round in the bus stop you would expect him to have it confiscated
I hope that makes sence, just my opinion.

There is a big difference between a soccer ball and a footbag though. If your kicking a soccer ball around you could hit someone and it would acctually hurt, but a small footbag wouldnt really do anything. Yeah, deffinately play during lunch its the best time of the day, and why not do the best thing.
Whoa, thats some bull shit.
I like how you stand up to your gym teacher though. Who wouldnt? Seems like youve lost an awfull lot of bags there.
My school doesnt hate it as long as I dont do it in the halls. My friends and I shred at recess.
My art teacher's really cool though. Once i was done and Se saw the footbag in my binder and said
"you can do that? cool!"
"yeah" I cleverly retorted.
then she asked me to show her something and I played the rest of the class! got some paint on the ball though
Thats one of my best school memories.

my school was definitely down w/ it too, but all that i remember (i didnt freestyle in high schoOL) was hack circles...which were not a disciplinary problem.
