What were the in moves of 2005? What about 2006?

Post by max »

I was discussing this with a french footbagger last week-end. So what was 2005 all about?

- barraging was IN
- swirls where hot
- ripsteins where all the rage too.

- whirls were still out (generally)

now 2006's rolled around. Barraging has lost a lot of it's luster I think. Especially since now everyone left right and center is hitting nemesis (considered as a noob trick in Poland I beleive ;) )

what are gong to be the hot concepts for the coming year? I can still see swirls being hot as symp. torques.

Pleae feel free to completely disagree with me concering what I thought of 2005 and '06

Symp torque
Phasing set
I think that barraging sets will still be in (or at least I will still so them, b/c I'm still learning them and love them)
Alpine moves (stepping ducking, atomic ducking, pixie ducking, etc.)

I think we'll know after Euros and Worlds when we catch all the new footage of the Europeans blazing trails...

10+ fearless as the standard, for sure.

I always thought blazing was cool, but it never seems to be used, oh and Surging is the best looking set to me, so hopefully more of it :D

I think the trend in popular moves depends a lot on what Vasek is into to be honest.

2005:
ripstines
ripped warrirors
superflys though that seems to be more from 2004?
barraging
big blender combos

2006:
Hard to tell untill after worlds and euros... maybe symp torques.. I don't know about phasing.
I hope to see lots of inspinning and spinning out of new sets, stepping inspinning, nuke inspinning, fairy spinning/inspinning, surging inspinning!! All underused :)

surging was big in 05. blenders. so far 06 has continued along with that trend.

i wont mind if phasing gets even more popular. its cool stuff. wauxpin (sp?) was really popular for awhile in 05

Merlins were also big.
I second the double spinning and surging -- big stuff in 2005.

2006 will definately continue with furious, swirling...I'm thinking more unusual stuff too. The age of the Destroyer.

vasek was doing alot of weird phasing shit in 2004 and it never really caught on. dunno if it will in 2006.
symp whirls (non paradox) were pretty in last year. nice shred accents i think.

as for a new in trick of 2006, i see dolomite getting thrown down alot more frequently in videos. maybe it'll catch on? so much cooler than superfly imo.

Yeah whirling swirls and double down swirls were big, so many people busting pdx whirling swirls/dod swirls/symp whirling swirl, all very cool.

I agree with Dolomite being a very cool and underused move, I think it's better than superfly because you can attach some cool as sets too it, pixie/fairy/tapping/slapping dolomite would all be very cool and achievable for many people.

2006:

-Symposium double downs
-Big blender moves
-Tagging swirls on the end of everything
-[Every set you can think of] > duck
-Inspinning

Of course now that I look at what everyone else says, and it being different than mine, I realize I have terrible taste in tricks and trends. Hahaha.

Hopes:

-I hope surging doesn't catch on. No one has done it right since Chad D.
-I hope shooting goes extinct.
-I hope I see more people concerned with long, genuine, stylie strings. (Lots of stepping same side and both sides spins.)

Would be cool if we had some way to document what moves were INVENTED each year, a kind of running history on freestyle.
2005 featured Spinning Ducking PS Torque and Furious Blender as standouts in my mind... and who could forget Sailing ss Flurry! First confirmed 5 dex! What a huge moment!

I hope that more people would do surging ducking. (What do you think, does Felix do surging set right?)
I'd also like to see a lot more genuine, but I'd also like to see the stylie tricks that for some reason may not be rewarded with 3(+) adds. More spins. :)

Haha. This may cause a stir....I am a big fan of Felix and he's absolutely sick, but I don't like his surging. Surging ducking in general is something I can't see being clean by anyone at anytime. I used to surge, but I just got real turned off by it. But again, I'm probably really weird or wrong. :P

i mean, either its clean or its not, and it should be pretty clear. take the video, frame by frame, and if the order is:
1. bag leaves foot
2. back spin
3. dex
than its clean! i havent personally done this with felix's surging (ok, i havent done this with anyone's surging) on video, but it really shouldnt be that debated. obviously same goes with shooting. i personally, have done clean shooting. none of you have seen it, but i have. which is good enough for me. dont give a shit if you believe me. but im small potatoes. lots of people do clean shooting. why put a leash on the sport by saying that a set should be never touched again because some people cant do it cleanly? some people the barrages, does just looking at their toe completely missing the dex make you so sick that you wish no one would attempt janiwalker again?

edit-yeah, pretty off-topic. but i already gave my opinion. and i agree with what...whoever mentioned whirrs said. they were starting to get big the second half of 05, and seem to be popular still
