Have you ever been to an event?

This is a pretty general question...I dunno, it may have been asked before, but I'm really curious out of the people that post here, how many have gone to an event? And if you have been to an event, did you compete?

I'm not sure why I was thinking about this, it just came to my mind the other day...I really just wonder how many people are into footbag and haven't yet experienced going to an event, either because they can't or don't want to. It just seems like such an integral part not only to learning, but when you compete you feel SOOO much better about your game, even if you don't do so well. I've been to several events, and competed at one, and I can honestly say that just competing made me feel really awesome, and made me really up my game a bit...I was really intimidated about competing at first...but then I realized that you've got nothing to lose!!! All you'll get is support from everybody there, even if you feel like you sucked.

Anyway, let's hear it!! Who here has been to an event? And if you have been, did you compete? Why didn't you compete if you did go to an event?

Ive been to a event before and that shit was so fun! I even competeted and it was some of the most fun i have ever had!

I've been to an event too and competed, only once so far.
It was a strange feeling - I had no idea what was happening around me and I didn't even hear my music.

Like some kind of a trance.

I go to most of the local events in Chicago but I have not competed in freestyle since 2003. Towards the end I felt my skills weren't good enough to give a solid performance and it just wasn't fun anymore. Sometimes entry fee was a factor. Now, events are just great places for me to meet new kickers and hang out with players I don't see often. I couldn't tell you the results from any of the past New Year's Jams but I could definately share a few hilarious stories from all of them.

Oh, I did compete in 4-square at the last NYJ, no entry fee and I had a total blast. It would have been fun even if I didn't win it

I have been to only 2 events in my over 2 years of footbag, that's what comes from living ages away from any kind of event that doesn't cost thousands to get to

About 1 month after I started freestyling I went to the New Zealand nationals in 2004, it was awesome, I didn't plan to enter but I ended up competeing in intermediate sick3 and I got 4th with legover > butterfly > reverse whirl I think.

I missed the 2005 NZ nationals and I reget it to this day, I was so stupid for not going

Other event i've been to, and my first time competeing open was Australian footbag nationals 2006, I got 4th in routines and 6th or something in Shred30 and I didn't even hit my sick3

. Aussie nationals was the coolest thing ever, I don't remember ever having a more enjoyable trip than it.

where i live, footbag isn't big... at all, maybe 5 out of 3000 people (teens) play... so there aren't any competitions anywhere near here...

I have been to every event in Australia since 2003. I think Ian P is the only other person who can say that.

NSW champs Homebake 2003 (or was it late 2002?) I can't remember.
East Coast Champs 2003
Aus Champs 2004
Brisbane City Jam 2004
Aus Champs 2005
Aus Champs 2006

Of course if you count the minor events we've held down in tassie I win

I have competed in all those events except Aus Champs 2006 where I was a judge and didn't feel it would be appropriate for judges to compete.

I have yet to go to a competition, but I'm hoping to go the East Coast competition coming up. I wouldn't compete though because I'm nowhere near good enough, I haven't been playing for long. The reasons I would go would be to shred with other people and get some footbag help (no one footbags in my area), and to see Peter Irish's last performance. Maybe I'd compete when I get better though, it sounds like a lot of fun.

-P.S. I know this should go in the East Coast post, but i just posted there and I don't know if it's bad to double post. Does anyone know if the East Coast competition is held every year?

I've only been to one event. It was back before I even had lavers. I competed, although it was hardly a competition. More of a two day session with about 6 or seven guys. To this day that is the only time I have played with other freestylers and it was SOO fun, even if I couldn't understand what was going on when they were shredding. I got second in iron man!

It seems like all the prairie competitions since then just haven't worked out for me. Always on weekends that I have big plans aready or something, and I don't have the funds to travel too far.

I have been to danish champs 2 times. And danish footbag camp 2 times.
I've competed at danish champs both times.
First time i was at the camp there was no comp.
But this time there was, I competed and was Judge.

I voted that I've been to tournaments but didn't compete, but then remembered that I have. I've competed at every event, I think, except the one big tournament I've been to. That was for a bunch of reasons, like money, little interest in competition, and standing in front of a lot of people which is scary enough at smaller events.

I've been to all four(?) Shred Zero tournaments, all six(?) Hackrifice tournaments, one in Regina (Hotsteppers), and one in Colorado (CSS). I think that's all. Money was always a huge barrier. I kick myself for missing some other semi-close events, though, like ShrEdmonton, KICKASS, GLASS, Cloud 9, and Worlds 2004.

The SCI will make an even dozen for me. Around 21 if you count formal jams. I hope I stay on pace over the next 4 years.

i've been lucky enough do do alot of different type of competitions (big, small, shred focused, party focused) in alot of different places.

i've done 11 comps and competed in all of them.
