New Competition Idea

Post by Splint »

This was sort of thought out in some form or other a while back and I thought I'd bring it back to life since Italy won the World Cup on Penalty Kicks.

You have a trick list established and published before the event. 5-10 tricks. Then you either do head to heads or a line up and everyone has to hit those tricks when it's their turn. They only get one try per trick, hit or miss and move on. The scores pretty much play themselves out on a grid. You can have an auxilliary list for tie breakers. It could also go Spelling Bee style where a person gets knocked out if they miss and the next person hits.

Sounds pretty cool. It might be a bit limiting though. People learn different tricks. So some people would be able to hit them no problem and others wouldn't have a chance because the list included tricks they just haven't learned yet.

I dunno. I like the idea though.

Or it could have a random aspect. Like, first round is all three adds or four adds, or all dowtime (whatever). Second round is harder, perhaps five adds. But again, it would be limiting because what's easy for some is hard for others.

We played a game like that in Melbourne once - the first person comes up with a concept - like clipper moves or ducking tricks or moves ending on a sole stall or whatever and then each player has to hit a unique trick of the same or higher add value to that trick and if you drop you're out. I guess you could combine that idea with Brad's - isn't that special.

Kinda like HORSE...

But it kinda goes against the freestyle aspect of the sport

I think it sounds like a wicked idea for playing in circles at a jam or something, but I dunno how much I (personaly) would enjoy that part of an actualy tournament. Super cool idea though...

Of course we're all aware that many people learn different tricks at different rates, but almost everyone learns a lot of the same tricks. The list would be published 2 months in advance as well, that would give people enough time to learn tricks they needed to know.

An example of a trick list for this event (Pro list):

Blurry Whirl
PS Whirl
Jani Walker
Scorpian's Tail
Ripped Warrior
Tombstone
Blurry Torque
Bedwetter
Pdx Legbeater
Swifter

And then everyone is lined up and you pull the tricks out of a bag untill there's only one competitor standing? Or are they to be done in the order that you listed?

point system. everyone gets one try for each trick. They hit the trick, they get one point. They miss, they get none.

i like the idea, but it would get kinda boring seeing 20 people in a row hitting the same trick. it needs a way to force tension on people so that it's more interesting to watch. Sorta like how when someone has 14 points in 4 square.

You could have two lists, A & B. Each player knows the overall trick list but does not know which ones have been split to the different lists. Do it as a head to head and each player chooses a list, they can pick the same list if they want.
