Help with DVD Decoders [No Video]

My hard drive is getting filled up with videos so I'm making some DVD's with the video's on them. THe only problem is that alot of the videos are in formats that the software I'm trying to use doesn't recognize and can't decode. It says I need to install the proper decoders, but I have no clue how to do that. Any help would be great!

PS I'm using Sonic DigitalMedia to do it. Thanks in advance.

I would assume just backing them up onto CD would be a lot faster, as opposed to converting every single video. Just my opinion.
