since i played footbag ive been a convinced gunit user. tricks were good to learn and i always loved the absorption bonus the shoe has compared to the laver (cuz i was heavyweight and had knee-pain very often in the beginning time, what was even more on lavers, so i chose gunits for all my training).
now what makes me a bit thoughtfully is that someone on worlds said clipper on gunit would be too easy, and beginners wouldnt learn their techniques right. i never really thought about that aspect before, and i always had the opinion that it should be easy for beginners to learn their basics, so they would have fast success and stay in the sport.
yesterday i tried on my lavers and i really noticed that even a single clipper is much more hard for me while in gunits i can already do several butterfly/osis stuff and clipper is easy going. i play since oct05 and im not sure if it was better to switch to the rod laver to get a better technique. bad thing is that then my training sessions would be shorter because my body, especially the knees can take less effort in these shoes.
do you think the gunits misguide into learning techniques not properly?
is it wrong to start with g-units?
I've always believed that the reason that footbag has a high dropout rate amongst beginers is because the basics are all hard to learn when starting out. If the shoes really make a difference, use them. I don't think they will make a big difference on your technique, and the reason that you didn't do so good with lavers is because you don't practice in them as much.

I think you're fine. First, you will probably not be switching back to lavers because of the difference in support, so just make sure you can play in what you wear: g-units. Also, a lot of the learning curve is made up of leg-eye coordination and the associated dexterity stuff (+ delaying), so I'm sure if you switched into another shoe you'd get the clippers and other delays down with a little bit of time; it'd simply be a matter of readjusting.

These two topics show a lot of good and valid points why you should keep wearing G-units. Although some say the "clipper rail" type instep moves away from proper form that the Lavers instep design has, the advantages you'll have in the G-units support balances that claim.
About the G-units instep, I usually play with a rolly bag to train myself on proper clipper form.

sure i did. i have spencos walker/runner insoles. it might be my heavy weight and some wrong jumping/knee usage techniques. my mum has a different opinion. she says it cant only be the overweight. im using kneebands since my doctor told me about my kneecaps being too small, resulting in too much pressure on each one while landing. it has become better since i use them, but its not 100% fixed yet. these days its more the muscles that hurt cuz im practicing 2-3 hrs / day what my body isnt used to.
