Summer's End Shred IV

Post by Camilleon »

Hellloooooo Shredders!

So it’s that time of the year again when you realize that the summer is almost over, you didn’t see as many footbaggers as often as you’d hoped, and snowstorms and Santa Claus will soon be trampling down our beloved Canadian shred season...

But it’s also that time when you realize that the most chillin jam ever is just around the corner! Summer’s End Shred 4!!! :D

S.E.S. is a small casual jam held in Ontario. In the past it has been at Canada’s Wonderland and the Toronto Buskerfest. This year we’re mixing things up and holding it at the Toronto Island!!!

This is so much better for so many reasons! First of all, if you haven’t been to the island, you don’t know what you’re missing. It’s a beautiful, fun, relaxing place. We will have a BBQ/picnic, perhaps explore the island a little (they have an amusement park, petting zoo, and a clothing-optional beach! ), and of course shred our feet off!

Everyone is welcome; friends, family, non-footbaggers, everyone. There will be no competitions or anything, it’s a strictly laid-back, no-worries, no-pressure jam to play haki saki and enjoy the last days of the summer.

It will be on Saturday, September 2nd. We’ll meet early (noon) at the Toronto Ferry Docks and take the ferry over to the island together. That evening, everyone is welcome to come back to my place for a Backyard Kegger! I think that it’s the best idea for an after-party since it’s cheaper than a bar, the underagers won’t be locked out, and there is more of an opportunity for (drunken) footbag. :P So we’ll take the Go Train from Union Station to my area (a 20 minute train ride). If anyone wants to crash, let me know and we can set up some tents in the backyard. I’ll provide the tents, pillows, blankets, etc.

So please let me know if you are coming!

We will be asking for a few dollars from each person that attends for the food we’re bringing (burgers, hot dogs, buns, drinks, etc.), but it shouldn’t be more than $5 each. If you have any special food requirements or allergies, please let me know. Also, if you can, please bring a picnic item like potato salad or pasta salad, rice krispies treats, those sorts of things. If you do intend to bring something, please let me know and I’ll make sure there won’t be like 5 different potato salads. And just in case, know that there is no alcohol allowed on the Toronto Island unless it is purchased from a licensed restaurant there. I’m not sure why you would be drinking there anyway, we are there to chill and shred…but if you MUST get drunk in the evening, come to my kegger!!! :P

So here are some details, directions, prices, yada yada yada…

DATE: Saturday, September 2nd, 2006.
PLACE: The Toronto Island
MEETING PLACE: The Toronto Ferry Terminal (at the foot of Bay St. and Queen’s Quay) http://www.toronto.ca/parks/island/summerschedule.htm
MEETING TIME: 12 noon
PRICE OF FERRY (round trip): Adults: $6.00 , Students (15-19 w/student card): $3.50

MY CONTACT INFO:
MSN/EMAIL: [email protected]
CELL PHONE: 416-602-1985

PUBLIC TRANSIT (TTC) DIRECTIONS TO FERRY TERMINAL:

FROM UNION STATION: Take the 509 Harbourfront streetcar or the 510 Spadina streetcar to the Bay Street and Queen's Quay Stop. *NOTE: both streetcars travel along a tunnel and stop at a station underground called “Queen’s Quay”. Don’t get out there, it’s a mall and a bit of a further walk. Continue on the streetcar until you are outside and get out at Queen’s Quay and Bay St. -where the streetcar will turn right.

FROM THE TORONTO COACH (BUS) TERMINAL (at Bay St. & Dundas St.): Walk to Bay St. and take the 6 or 6A Bay Street South Bus south to the Bay and Queen’s Quay Stop.

TTC PRICE: $2.75 one way

TTC MAP: http://www.toronto.ca/ttc/pdf/downtown.pdf

-From the bus/streetcar stop at Bay and Queen’s Quay you will see the Ferry Docks. Just walk there and look for the mob of freaks with clownish looking shoes and these weird bean bag thingies that they kick around and do crazy wicked tricks with. :P

-At the end of the day we’ll of course take the ferry back to the mainland, which costs nothing (return fare included in the original ticket). Then we’ll take the TTC from the docks to Union Station, which will cost another $2.75 per person.

PARTY DETAILS:

-If you’d like to come to the party after, please let me know and I will plan accordingly. It will likely be pretty huge, so I’ll need to know how many kegs to get.
-If you want to crash, you are more than welcome to, just let me know. There is no limit on how many people can stay over, but it will be in tents in my backyard. Sorry, but the yard is at least pretty decently sized.

GO TRAIN FROM UNION STATION TO MY AREA: $3.70 (we’ll have rides from the train station to my house)

ADMISSION TO PARTY: $10 (unless you aren’t a drinker)

So that’s pretty much it! If you have any questions or anything, please contact me.

Summer’s End Shred 4 is going to be the best yet!

COME!!!

I'll obviously be there. I've never been to Toronto Island (at least not since I was a little kid) so I'm sure it'll be fun. And I wouldn't mind ogling the nudie beach a little too...as long as it's not packed full of old dudes. Anywho, everyone has to come from ontario. Even ottawa shredders. Deal with it.

I just found out I'm available that weekend, so it looks like I'm there!

Skippy: If it's more convenient, you can park at my place and we can subway it down from there. If not, I'd still like to meet up with you or someone at Union station if not before... I'm uncomfortable with streetcars etc. HAhaha... . I drive, not TTC.

I've got a sony minidv, I'll try to remember to bring it. I don't know how much footbag I'll play because I don't know how my back will be. I'm taking the weekend off footbag atleast so I guess I'll see more what the situation is going to be like on monday.

I have a tripod and a sony digital camcorder, which is a few years old but will do the trick nicely I think. However, I'll probably only bring it if someone has the capability of putting the little dv cassettes on their computer, since I can't.
Let me know!

I want to come to this.
I have work 4-6, however. And it'd be really hard for me to just come for 4 hours.

Dammit! It's supposed to be raining and chilly on Saturday!

If it is for sure we'll change our plans and play somewhere sheltered, and no bbq. :(

Sorry boys. Not sure what else to do. But the kegger is also cancelled because of the rain.

Booooooooooooooooourns.

Ah crap. Well lets wait and see. No matter what the weather, I'm playing tons on Saturday. What are our indoor options? There has to be more than the U of T spot.

I talked to Camille today. There are lots of indoor options, like the Beaches, Yorku, U of T, and some spots downtown that I've never had the pleasure of shredding before. Are people other than FAT coming still? If so, let us know fast and also speak up about your preferred spot. I'll go anywhere, because I MUST FOOTBAG WITH FAT THIS SATURDAY. Rain or shine. Let's get this together.

Ok so I'm thinking that U of T spot is our only safe bet.

Trying to play outdoors, even under a shelter, will prove silly. It's going to be cold and windy because of Ernesto...

So I think U of T at noon is the deal. Is that ok? Or should we meet later now that we don't have any BBQing or exploring to do?

:( Stupid weather.
