Footbag Verbs (named after footbaggers)

Post by dyalander »

Can someone give me definition of "regulated" and "windsored" as well as any other such footbag verbs you know off. I also know of "piltzing". I know what these mean but I'd like a cool written definition, dictonary style, and am currently too lazy to do it myself. I'd also like to know other terms like these named after players. Feel free to make them up but if you do try and make them good, either very funny (just funny isn't good enough) or apt to the wider footbag community (not just apt to you and your circle but something footbaggers will understand worldwide).

I had a funny one, but I'm not sure if it's very funny. Better safe than sorry I guess - I'd hate to be considered rude! Also, I think there's a reasonable chance that your post was longer than the defenitions of all three of those terms combined, you clod.

From flipsider's "jargon" page
regulate – v. when the person before you tries a combo, then you get the footbag and bust something very similar, but much harder. This is named after Ryan "The Regulator" Mulroney, who was untouchable for years.
This is the sort of thing I wanted so if you post your own make it in this simple format rather than just using in a sentence.
I'd suggest: zenger - v. when the person before you hits a hard move on his first contact, then when you get the bag you hit that same move mid run in a hard combo.
[edit] Also just to make sure before I start a list in the first post being "windsored" is when you try a move or combo but drop and then the next dude hits it, and "piltzing" is when the guy before you hits a move/combo and then you try but drop. Am i right?[\edit]

In Warsaw we have a term "Źrebakowanie" named after Wojtek Ignaczak (his nickname is Źrebak). He self-serves all the time, so we decided to use this term just as a synonim of self-serving.

History-wise, the first was "Windsoring" named after Eric Windsor. The definition is: when the guy before you tries a trick, drops it, passes it to you, and then YOU hit the trick he just missed.

Its kind of impolite, but Eric used to do it all the time. Nobody told him about the term for a while. This was around 99. About the same time, the term "Piltzing" was also born. It's similar to Windsoring, except you miss the trick. Like, you tried to Windsor somebody, but failed. This was a joking term, and never really caught on. After 99 Worlds, I coined the term "regulating" for essentially windsoring somebody, but adding another add/bsosing the trick, etc. So like a level up from windsoring.

Ok sweet (thats what I said only I defined being winsorED, you defined windsorING se we just changed subjects of the verb.)

What about being 'Honza-ed' - getting hit by other people's projectiles (eg flying discs) or other falling or moving objects while shredding (as shown at the end of champs league).

I was actually thinking that terms like regulating, windsoring and piltzing would be really useful for Circle comp M.C's, though obviously not when the crowd is largely non-footbaggers.

Somolinosed:

Bending down to pick up a dropped bag and getting kicked squarely in the forehead from somebody in another circle who is trying to use a back-kick to make a wild save.

The correct response to being Somolinosed is (after regaining conciousness) to say "Ow! I think I've got a papercut!" and then to team up with your assailant and take on all comers in DOA: Beach Volleyball.

I like it. What does Ken think?
It was pointed out to me that some of the people might not be down with their names being verbalized in this way. I initially assumed it'd be OK but understandably people don't necessarily have a sense of humour about the use and misuse of their names, which is fair enough.
SO if there are any problems in this regard (is Ellis down with 'Piltzing'? I'll PM him) pls PM me or post here and that way no one will have their name become footbag slang in a way that they are not happy with, also show some consideration to your fellow footbaggers and if you're in doubt find out from them first.

NO, I am not 'down' with that term. The inside joke has been lost in translation. This exact subject came up a couple years ago on here (forums are so perpetual), but it must have been deleted, or I would just link to it. Bottom line is "windsoring" as a term is incredibly insulting to Eric Windsor, because of the content and more importantly it was behind his back for many years. I was actually there (me and Richie) to break the news to him, and he was really hurt. It's not so bad when a few friends start calling it like that and keep it for themselves, but when it spreads throughout the whole community and everyone is laughing at you behind your back, it's not funny anymore, and should be stopped.

"Piltzing" is as such because in Colorado we had a... excuse me for using the term... "Windsoring" session (kind of a game of h.o.r.s.e., if you will) for a whole 10 minutes or something, and I was following Daryl Genz I think, who would always hit something foreign to me, so I was missing my Windsor attempts. Daryl or somebody called out "Piltzed!", which was pretty funny at the time, but having it become widely known is just as insulting if not more, because of the hidden meaning. In case it's not obvious it's like saying I'm not good enough to even Windsor someone, which would be factually incorrect I might add, duh. I seem to remember Daryl really getting a kick out of spreading that term for the next few years. Thanks, Genzu.

Aside from all that, I think it is utterly useless to know any of these terms, except "to regulate", which is of course pretty cool. I don't think Ken coined that term btw. Ryan was set on it being "to Mulroney" someone, and I kept on insisting (to Ryan) that it be called "to regulate". Eventually it stuck and became known.

Enjoy the gossip. :-|

That sucks. Thanks for the heads up... hopefully this will stop some people using the terms...

Also, actually trying to think up meanings for people's last names doesn't really work... it's not really funny then.

ok ok, when someone tries something and drops it, and you go next and do a theme run on that concept... then... then it's like you've been "hickingbotham'd" yeah hahaha man that's awesome yeah ^^

Thats completely fair enough, thanks for clearing it up. I did look for a previous thread about it before I posted but couldn't find it either.
The whole behind your back thing was a little worrying and when someone pm'd me it confirmed these worries which I had initially just ignored.

I apologise for not PM'ing you before putting the thread up.

Also from here on in, we should stick to terms that the players themselves have approved.
