Presenting one of the greatest footbag players of all time in a 7.5 minute video, Ryan Mulroney at his best. The first part of the video is Ryan's signature intense shred, edited to high impact music that compliments his style, followed by part 2: Ryan, in his own words (an uncensored interview).

A note about the video, I shot and edited this over 3 years ago, so it doesn't at all reflect my abilities as a filmmaker, but it's still a cool video that says a lot about the sport and the man who dominated it for so many years. This clip was originally intended to be part of the Eutopia project, but since I will probably never have time to finish that production, and I've been sitting on this segment that whole time, you all deserve to finally see it. I had intended to use the interview (as well as all the others I shot from 2003-2005) to tell a story, intercut with shred and other action, but since I never got to that stage of editing, I decided to just throw Ryan's whole interview on at the end. I will likely do the same for a number of players in the coming months.

Wow, great job Ellis. The shred footage was vintage Mulroney (great editing, superb musical choices), but the interview was the icing on the cake (and my favorite part). Very interesting opinions and perspective from one of the most influential footbaggers of all-time. For anyone who hasn't seen footage of the incredible late night shred from '99 Worlds that Mulroney mentions, check it out here (it was jaw-dropping to see live):

Anyway, I'm merely waxing nostalgic, but it sure would be cool to see little video bios and interviews featuring some of the legends of footbag (Kenny, Rippin', Peter, Chad, Ahren, Ellis, Sunil, Munger, Tuan, Daryl, etc., etc.). Cull together some vintage clips (sort of like Ellis did with the flashbacks in Aggressive Grounds), mix in some recent footage if the shredder is still kicking, tack on little interviews, the rest writes itself. Not sure who would ever have the time to do a project like this - it's really just a daydream.

Once again, superb work, Ellis. Too bad Eutopia never came to fruition. You should stick this sucker on YouTube.

I just noticed this comment, and as mentioned above, my only request would be to see some flashback footage juxtaposed with the interviews (not sure how tough it would be for you to obtain high quality footage that would be worth using). Just a thought. Either way, very cool idea, Ellis. Stuff like this could really pave the way for more documentary/interview style videos rather than just the pure shred that we're all used to. Can't wait to see more of these!

That was so great. I really liked how all the locations were fresh from videos I'd seen from 2003 Worlds (or whenever this was filmed). I don't think I liked the music too much, but it may have just been my headphones not working (since they haven't been). It made me sad to remember that Eutopia never came out, though. Do you have any other footbag projects in the works, Eli?

Thank you for sharing this video. I really enjoyed it. The editing and filmwork were really spot on. The crosshairs zoom on the bag really stood out for me. Also, all the moving pan shots and transitions blew me away. Especially, the one shot where all the cars were going by and then he just disappeared. The shred itself was good too. I love his barroques.

Sorry my framing (camera-work) was pretty whack at the beginning of the interview; I wasn't being very careful.

No doubt that would be a turn for the better. I certainly would have liked to intertwine the interview and include old footage and party scenes to compliment his story, but that just meant more time I didn't have. You have to understand that I edit 45-60 hours a week, so I don't really like to spend my already insufficient free time working. I know you're not complaining; I'm just explaining why I didn't take the time to make it better.

The location shots in Berlin were cool, and its awesome that 3 yr old Mulroney shred is still pretty up there, skillwise. Can't wait to watch it with sound. Thanks Eli.

Anyone else feel like this vid is a significant part of our sport's history? Likely for most of us, this is the closest we'll ever come to meeting the guy.

I like his attitude -- no sugar coating. I think his opinion would change now regarding the ethic of the European scene. Still a lot of partying though.

Really neat to see what was hardcore and shocking in 03. Were 'blurry symp' triples the cutting edge then? Seems a bit funny now.

That was a masterfully shot and edited video, thanks a lot, Ellis. I agree that his perception of the European drive to improve would probably have changed by now. at first, I was put off by his attitude, but then I saw that this was shot a few years ago, so maybe it was that much different then.

I really enjoyed that video. Can't wait to see more.

Nice intro montage with the naming! Mmm Breakbeats come in setts a fitting pace. He seems a bit one sides, but really good though. I like his body type a lot..... for footbag The cuts and angles are interesting and engaging. They match the pace of the shred, which is intense! Nice slo mo. What kind of camera was it filmed with? Barroque zoom. That is synonymous with pimp. Oop! Hot chicks in the background!! Bonus points! Gimping ss reverse whirl was PIMP! Is that 'Fine'? I dunno Euro girls, her knee was wrapped Get better! Was that a Lions den move? Yo you had that in there! Omg I remember watching the 60 FPS double ATWS with my JAW DROPPED like whoaaaa. The interveiw: Wow! Right off tha bat its good, and boy he can go fast! Crazy. Well, I dunno the ending left me weird but thats probably just me.
