(no video) Why can't I watch Quicktime videos?

I just tried watching Cod's video, and it turned out to be Quicktime. I don't know how long it's been that I couldn't watch Quicktime videos. I always just shrugged and ignored the message, forgetting about the video. I always just thought I needed to update Quicktime (I don't use it much/at all). So I thought it was about time to do something about it and updated it and tried again, but it still doesn't work. It said I don't have the software to use it, and its site doesn't have the software I need. Do I have to download something, or is my computer not capable? I can't imagine my computer not being able to do it. It's a Dell from 2005.

What is the error that you get? It may be that your computer thinks Windows Media Player is supposed to open it. When WMP tries to open it, it can't and Windows gives up.

If that is the case

Right click one of the quicktime files

Select "Properties" at the bottom of the little menu that comes up

A screen will pop up. There should be a field "Opens With". If this is indeed the problem, Quicktime will not be the application it's set to open with.

Click "Change". A list of possible programs will pop up.

Select Quicktime Player

This should make it so that Quicktime is the default player for all movies of that type (usually .mov or .avi files)

Let me know if that doesn't work. If it doesn't, please be more specific on what exactly you're doing and what error message/situation you're getting.

just download VLC media player. Just search for "VLC media player" on google and it will take you to the site to download it. It plays every video format created. Including quicktime

I just found the properties on some sample video and changed it from opening with Real Player to Quicktime. Nothing works if I click on a link still (it just opens with a blank window and then the Quicktime error pops up). Did changing the properties on that one video only work for that video, or will it work for any .avi video? Well it said Quicktime movies not .avi...I don't know why Real Player is set-up to open Quicktime movies. Maybe I hit Real Player as default for .avi videos a long time ago. Well, I tried looking around on Quicktime to make it the default player, but I couldn't find anything.

I am watching the video in DivX for now. It's not a huge problem, since I can use DivX instead. I'm just lazy, I guess, that I have to open DivX and open the URL and all that instead of just clicking on the link and letting it do it for me.
