Im not a fan of footbag.

I spent as much time at the chicago new years jam as possible and i realized that i dont really enjoy watching or talking about footbag.

I watch videos for extra motivation, I enjoy teaching and giving tips or recieving tips about my game.

But experiencing a footbag tournement from the sidelines and having more interest in talking about sports movies tv shows wrestling exct.... than talking about who hit what trick or who won what competition.

I still had a blast i still love being around footbaggers but i just have no interest in the sport with the exception of my own motivation to be in any circle that welcomes me.

Im just wondering how many of you can relate, im not raining on anyones parade or judging anyone who is a really big fan of the sport, i just wanted to throw this conversation out there for the sake of it.

I guess im just a footbag player only, the only fun or interest i have in this sport is my active participation in it.

Sorry I said ugly chicks. I am just kidding around and i dont really think anyone is ugly (except for my third grade teacher). It doesnt matter what you look like as long as (am I really giving this speech). Im not personally calling anyone ugly, in fact every girl I have seen in footbag has been pretty (most girls are).

Shawn, you're not alone. Zeke and I are good examples of people who have more fun playing than talking about it. Especially Zeke. I watch vids and stuff, but I don't know everyone and who hit what.

wow i cant believe you said "except for ugly chicks". i know you take that back, but i dont think you appreciate the DEPLEATING AMOUNT of women footbaggers. you know, its assholes that make footbaggers feel unwelcome. and its feeling unwelcome that makes most women footbaggers quit. even if you dont think so, people take every word you type seriously because they dont know what your personality is. be careful what you say.

and to shawn... most people have their quarks about their interests. such as i like watching footbaggers shred, but i like shredding more. i like paying video games, but im not gonna watch people play (unless its boxing on the wii). and i like making art but i hate going to gallery openings.

there are many people out there just like you. and im sure you were frustrated with your foot being hurt and you were pissed that you could pretty much only watch the event and couldnt shred. i would be frustrated too if i were injured

Good thing Im not an asshole, If you dont believe me read everyone of my posts and youll realize im just a fun loving guy who enjoys long walks on the beach and footbag. I just watched Tinas Amazing shred, Im not worried about Women shredders becoming "extinct", They are too good!

yeah, i cant relate to shawns problems either. half the reason im as good at footbag as i am is because i've always been a fiend for talking and reading more about it, learning all the names and sets, discussions of nomenclature and move theory, shoes, bags, etc. i dont think i'd be interested in playing if i wasnt at least somewhat interested in the sport.

Shawn: If you dislike watching people play, it doesn't seem like watching videos would motivate you, you know? Maybe I'm wrong.

I've been injured at (multiple) events making it so I was only able to watch and hang out. Sometimes being unhappy about not being able to play makes me not feel as into watching as I would normally be. I'm not saying that's what you were experiencing, but it's something to consider. When that's all you can do, meaning you're watching more than you normally would, it's easier to feel bored, frustrated or jealous.

At the same time, I'm similar to you in that I probably won't be caught talking about footbag moves or combos for hours at a time. I'm the sort of person who would like a sports team but not know all of the players' stats or collect the cards (unless it was footbag player cards because, well, come on.)

Well, how long have you been playing?
After 5 or 6 years and a couple dozen tournaments, footbag chat gets a little old for most people... However. there are always those, like Red for example, who are always down for some "whos hittin what" talk.

Great post Holly! i agree with what your saying.

The reason why i thought of this was not cause i was injured it was cause alot of people were watching jorden moir and dave clavens in a two person circle. Nobody was getting up to play with them, and yeah it was fun to watch them tear it up for about 15 minutes and then they were getting exhausted and it would be safe to assume they would not have minded some extra participation from other players

it seems as though people wont step up and take a third or a fourth of the load off cause they were

A.intimidatted / didnt feel they were good enough (In freestyle footbag that should never be the case)

or

B. More interested in watching their game than playing their own

To me i could care less that jorden won shred 30 at worlds, i was more interested in possibly asking him how his maple leafs are doing this year, or if i was healthy i would have been more interested in filling a shred spot in thier shorthanded cirlce.

And i would have been more interested in what suggestions tips and advice they would have for me, more so than i would be intimidated or in Awe by their skill. or what monster trick was hit bsos (i dont even know half the names of the shit they do)

I can handle watching people shred for about 15 minutes, then all i can think about is playing my own game. So that is why even though im not a huge fan im still motivated by videos. The videos i watch are always the ones that inspire my own game and the style of play i prefer.

Again were all different, and i can consider most of us to all be friends cause this is an amazing comunity, so im not knocking anyone else's motives or wishes, just kind of felt like stating my own.

I still find modified.in to be fun cause i can talk about when and where people are playing in my area, i can also keep track of events i would like to go to, and i can get in touch with players in an area i may be visiting
