Perogie, Pierogi, any polish or ukranian forum members?

Post by jay7 »

Well, I'm in Germany, away from my nice homemade perogies that my grandmother made every few months in Canada, and I'm craving them, bad. I've been trying to explain to my host mother here, what they are and that I either want to make them from scratch, or buy them. Trouble is I can't find them anywhere in Stores, and I always remember my grandmother taking 1-2 hours a batch. Could any of you polish members direct me to a way I could get these in Germany, or even better a recipe so that I could make them myself? All the recipes around the net are different, some even having honey, it'd be nice to have a tried and tested one to refer to, especially so I don't waste 2 hours to get soggy ones that fall apart.

And if any of the polish members know German, what is the translation?

Mmmm....

I'm about 1/8 Ukranian, and I fight with all the Polish kids at my school that perogies are Ukranian... I don't acctually know/care. I <3 all the polish kids at my school. It's all in good fun. :)

I don't really know where the rest of my heritage comes from... so even though I'm only a tiny bit Ukranian, that's the heritage I provide if I'm asked for it.

*cough*
anyway... about the Perogies...

Perogies pwn. Homemade ones pwn even more... Does that help?
:P

I'm sorry :(
