The Next Big Idea

Post by Splint »

I was laying in bed this morning for almost an hour, getting a chance to do some well deserved totally uninterupted thinking. It was great, but no big light bulbs popped up or anything.

Over the years, I've invented or created things in my mind and never followed through with any of them only to see them come out some time later. A short list:

Coke with Lime
Movies on Demand
Automatic Toilet Seats
He'brew beer

So I was laying in bed trying to think of the next big MySpace or YouTube. I didn't come up with anything.

Who else out there has ideas or has had an idea about something they'd like to invent and either still hopes to make it the Next Big Thing or has seen it invented or created by someone else?

I've thought of many things and saw them later on.

-Solar-powered air conditioner/ heater for a parked car
-A device to grab objects from a distance...I actually made one for a science
project in 6th grade...we'll my dad did, mostly

Man there were so many, but I can't think of them at the moment. My latest thought was something to convert (cigarette) smoke into something non-polluting...I dunno how or what, but it would be nice.

JrStubs and I were talking about this not too long ago.

EDIT: I've also thought of stuff to do for candy, like Reese's or something (I can't remember), and wondered if I could write a letter to the candy maker to see if I could give them my idea and get some of the profit off of it. I doubted it and never tried.

I thought up an idea for a comic and a couple months later my favourite artist came out with a huge series based on practically the exact same idea.

Back in college I'd eat at my favorite hot dog place every week, and I'd mix Hawaiian Punch with Mountain Dew. A couple years later "Mountain Dew: Code Red" came out, which is exactly the same thing.

hoodies with headphones in the hood... thought of it in my 7th grade social studies class, and seen it in a target ad two years later.

May sound funky, but that "Chop Chop" thing... yeah, that was an idea of mine a long while ago. Then I saw it on an infomercial like 2 years later.

And those tape measures that use triangluating laser pointers. One peice as the two sensors that both pick up the signal from the second piece, and it triangulates teh exact distance. Saw it a few months ago, though i'm sure it probably was made 2 years ago or something. Thought that up in 7th grade when I was learning about triangulating positions and shit...

holy poo... that is asinine. Pop is bad. Greasy Bacon is bad. Diet Pop is worse. Artificial Greasy Bacon is worse still. This pop will be the death of the human species

on the other hand: if it's a joke... that's pretty funny
