Saying goodbye to the toebox
Saying goodbye to the toebox
I cut off the toeboxes of my gunits a couple months ago. I hated it when the sides caught the bag during pixies.
It was a really good decision. Not only does it appear that Im not "cheating" anymore to non-players, but I think it helped my style. At first I felt naked without the box but I don't even notice anymore. I adapted.

I agree that the toe walls on the Goonitz are pretty high, but I've seen so many great players rocking G-units and doing super clean pixies with walls that I just couldn't cut it off on my current pair.
I also had a pair of G-units in which I cut off the toe walls, but those were a size too big, so I couldn't account on how well I can play in them.

Having walls has never hindered my game. If you feel you need to take them off maybe you need to practice more.
Form is the #1 quality of a good player. I'm not trying to make some kind of direct comparison between players that use walls and players that don't and good form; I just never 'got' the whole need to remove the walls in the first place. Can't do dexes with walls? You're not doing them properly.
Goonit walls are are no different from lavers, then again I never pay attention to them.
Also, I really don't care what other people think about my shoes. Cheating? Tell them to hit a blurry whirl. Tell them to play basketball with a tennis racket.

I can see where you're coming from. My pixies were not perfect which is why they caught so much. I can admit that. But it goes both ways.
If you have to rely on the walls to catch the bag for you, your form isn't perfect either. It means your not setting perfectly vertical or your foot isn't catching it right.
but IF you don't rely on the walls to catch the bag, why have them....
It seems to me that having the walls will help form in some regards and going without them with help form in other ways.
I think having half-walls is the best compromise.
