Things that must be seen in Helsinki, Finland

Post by Caleb »

So a good friend of mine is going on a business trip to Helsinki and I figured this is as good a place as any to find some things that he HAS to do by the end of the week. Any ideas?

We already looked at the typical travel book type of attractions but I thought I could get a sort of "in-house" opinion here.

HESBURGER !!!

Totally kidding, btw. I remember about half a year ago digging through some old junk in my backpack and comming across some un-used coupons for Hesburger from my players' pack. It was a nice reminder of a good trip.

Hesburger FTW!!

I found Helsinki to be a pretty attractive but more modern kind of city, so you wont find so many like, very old buildings or 'old town' type areas as with many other European cities (from what i saw anyway)
There are nice parks to see, especially Kaivopuisto park (spelling is wrong i think) that overlooks the big harbour of Helsinki. You might even be able to see the Estonian coast from there...

I used a bike, there are free city bikes that you can get from stands all around the city, they are hard and dodgy to ride but very helpful to ride around the parks and stuff and through the city. There are some cool looking old buildings and churches near the harbour too, i cant remember what they are called.

Maybe a Finn can help us out here? I dont remember there being heaps of remarkable stuff about Helsinki in a tourism sense, but good cheap drinking is plentiful! I probably didnt do enough site-seeing cos i was up until 7am every morning partying then sleeping alot of the day

There is also a fair type place called Linnenmaki (sp?) where the Sick3 and Shred30 semis were held. Lots of rides and stuff
