Chad-eee's Little Guitar Lesson(feel free to add)

Post by CautionFragile »

(I will be updating this thread anytime I can think of something new)
OK.
First things first, you'll need a guitar. Not right away, but eventually :P You'll probably want to get yourself a variety of picks to chose from so you can find what works best for you.
And it's always a good idea to pick yourself up a Tuner and a Metrenome  .

Now it really depends on which direction you want to take with the instrument. There is the path of the master technician, or the path of the sound oriented twiddler .

The path of the mastery of technical ability and knowledge of all theory is a long hard road with limited possibilities through pre-determined patterns, so you aren’t truly free.

The path of the sound oriented is what I call those who “learn by earâ€

Play scales until you're sick of them, and then do them all over again

Pretty horrible response.

Learn double octave scales, especially exotic ones. Phrygian, Dorian, Lydian, ect ect. And don't just learn the scales in one position, learn as many of them as you can in all the positions.

hmmm except all of those scales are the same one.... and relatively speaking not very exotic. Harmonic minor and its modes, whole tone, both diminished, dominant #4... but those are just jazz scales, (well harmonic minor is a metal scale too I guess) there are all sorts of ethnic scales too that I couldn't recite to you.

Anywho music theory is a very very large world, when you are first getting into it, but once you get a grasp of it( which takes forever) it all becomes the same.

So yeah ... I guess this page is getting at
1 music theory
2 guitar technique
3 guitar theory
(1 and 3 can be very different)
which completely leaves out
repertoir, reading skills, improvisation, ear training, accompanying, transcriptions, rythm ect...

oh yeah and most importantly the internet has made it so that anyone can become a virtuoso, if there willing to put as much time in to it, as say it takes to hit 10 fearless or something :D

PS here me and a few other rambling about music theory about a year ago... bump it!!!!!!
