adidas rod lavers

hey everybody, this is my first topic! im stoked to be a part of this awesome forum! anyways, i just ordered my first real shred shoes, a pair of size 14 adidas rod lavers (yes, my feet are that big) any tips to keep them in optimum shredding condition, or instructions on breaking them in right? basically, if you own or ever did own a pair and theres anythign i should know, tell me. thanks alot, and hope to talk to you all soon! ill be posting up a storm, cause footbag rules!!!!

My suggestion is to buy athletic insoles, and play in them straight out of the box. After a number of sessions, decide for yourself which modifications, if any, you want to make to the shoe to help your game.
The most popular mod is removing the inside layer of mesh from the inside surface, and toe surface.

You can always go crazy and do all of the mods right out of the box, and that may benefit you, but I like to know exactly what I'm doing to my shoes, and why. Plus, you don't want to screw something up right away.

Also, lace your shoes the way that they suggest for footbag (I think instructions come with the shoes if you ordered from World Footbag?, if not, they are on footbag.org). Umm, and put your laces through the little loop in the tongue, because it's annoying when the tongue slides down.

The mods help a lot. I suggest doing them, at least remove the canvas on the inside from the toe and inside surface, your feet will breath better, plus you can feel the bag on your foot.

I remember my first pair of lavers.
As soon as they came to my house I opened the box and got to the cutting right away.

Just make sure not to puncture through the mesh or cut your self a bunch.
I got a bunch of blood on my first lavers.

thanks guys, i will most likely be removing the inside and toe mesh... any links to a tutorial or video? ive seen lacing tutorials, but never a mesh-removal one. also, as far as flaring the walls of the shoe on the toe, do you reccomend it? i did it with my converse hightops (my shred shoes until the adidas' come

and my bag kept getting caught whenever i pixie set or ATW.... does this happen with th rod lavers? id hate to slice the stitching to raise the walls, then have problems with them. thanks again, great help!

Well, I bought it with my own money, so knew they can't really do anything about it. But they do give me strange looks.

alright, so they are here. i just have one worry..... when i flared the walls on my converses, the bag got stuck whenever i did a pixie set or an atw.... i dont want this to happen with my lavers. should i try it out without the walls first, then see how it works? any personal experience would be great, thanks!

Learn pixies and fairies with the walls. learning them with walls will help make sure that the set is clean and not thin.

-What Erik said, definitely invest into some Spenco insoles, you will be able to tell the difference right off the bat.

-Do not mod the shoes till you get enough experience and know exactly what you want. Modding your shoes takes minutes, but keep in mind there's no way back!

-Decide whether you want to have your shoes loose or tight. Most people are not too concerned with this, but with my first pair of lavers this was the main issue. Lavers simply wouldn't work for me and I couldn't understand why. I didn't have anyone to ask for advice (barely spoke English at that time) and it took me about 2 pairs of lavers to figure how tight my shoes had to be. It turned out, I like my shoes extremely loose. This is the ONLY was I can use them and it's still the case five years later. I guess it depends on your style and shape of your feet, so try different things and find what works best for you. I'm size 12 and having my shoes loose makes a dramatic difference!

Just my 2 cents.

Also, welcome to the forum and good luck! Footbag is a great sport, there's a lot to explore!

ok one more quick question... how do you use "spacers" to open up the toe box, and what do you use? search only brings up context, sorry guys but i just cant usually find what i need through it. any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Don't worry about spacers. If you lace them right they will open up.

Also, the advice of not doing any mods is sorta wonky. You will want to at leeeast cut the stitches that hold down the toe walls.

yeah, those stitches almost have to be cut. i found the thread just now anyways. hey, i totaly saw you at worlds but didnt know who you were, then saw pictures later and i was like "thats mosher? no way!" lol

When i got my Lavers right out of the box, the surfaces were super slick, so i modded them a few days after i got mine, I removed bothe insides and toes. It's not hard to do just BE CAREFULL, and take your time.
