How do they play compared to a regular facile 32?

I own a ameretta spikey footfighter and it rocks, so I was wondering how the facile version plays?

i think spikey playability is dependant upon a number of variables:
-spike length
-gather
-pent/hex ratio
-facile color chosen for spikes/pents/hexes
-filler

there is no one perfect mix of all these, you just experiment with different things to find out what you personally like best.
we have a spikey footfighter, and its the shit. but keep in mind that amaretta is much thinner than facile, and a thicker fabric for the spikes will make it different.

pete bowler makes spiked 32's all the time and i have played with them but i have never played with an amaretta 32 so i wouldnt b able to compare. u should ask him. To me the spiked 32 plays practicaly the same as a non spiked only differences being its more visible due to the spikes and maybe it may roll off more wen its new but other than that there pretty straight.

I recently made one (a facile spikey)and I'm breaking it in right now. It definitely takes longer, but based on how it feels now I guess it will play nearly the same as without spikes once broken in. We'll see

My belief is that it will be much stiffer. You'll be adding a layer that constricts the bleed holes, and you will be technically connecting one pentagon to another with those spikes - therefore taking a longer time to break-in.

The majority of a 32's break-in comes from it's hexes than the pentagons, since you have 1) 20 hexes that make up the majority of the bag's foundation and shape and 2) the hexes are marginally connected by the pentagons like a flower, over a flower and etc. Only two separate stitches, that are loosely apart, connect the hexagons and have them meet within a 32.

Use a very flexible and tangible material for the spikes. Amaretta spikes will be top-shelf on a facile/amaretta 32. Use your weeakest facile colors for spikes otherwise.

I have a spikey 32 from Shred Villain and it is great. It has country cream spikes and plays fairly similar to a regular 32 in my opinion. Does seem to be a little easier to see while playing with it.

because i doubt either of you have seen/held one in person. (guessing, but whatever)

im not trying to sound asshole, but if you dont know, just dont say anything. speculations arent valid in reviews.

to compensate for spikes being stiff, and adding layers in bleed holes, make the bleed holes wide. that waay, extra flex, and they will work still. single strand floss, and stitch a good bag.

theyre practically the exact same deal as a normal 32.

Brian, I'm not speculating on the Active Green/Black Noir bag with the Black Noir spikes that you made at Worlds. Sure, Black Noir has a stiffer break-in than most colors, but it's not a valid belief/conclusion to say that Black Noir won't break-in and having Black Noir spikes will constrict a 32 to not break-in at all. Bags are bags, and if you kick the shit out of them they will break in.

I have felt a spikey facile 32 (from Peter Bowler), and stitched one for myself out of curiousity. I did make one, but ended up not liking the color I used for the spikes that I just ripped them off and just had a regualr 32. I'm just relating to my experiences in general, and just seeing through it for performance and not just aesthetic appeal. Of course, spikes are meant for aesthetics, but I'm just elating to the foundation of what is devised within 32 panels of 32 paneled bags.

I'm also clarifying on the aspect of how panels expand. If hexes expand on bags (along with pents, so do bleed holes (just a bit). Having the spikes connecting the two stitches within two pentagons will restrict the freedom of having that area expand, but that doesn't mean the bag won't break-in. That's all. You're correct that a spikey 32 won't play and perform like a regular 32 - that it will perform like a spikey 32.
