Rogue Valley Oregon Blog (SJFF was Awesome!)

Post by EoghanMcDowell »

Well i thought since we have more then two people in town playing footbag seriously, it was time for a blog to encompasses all of us. So right now we don;t have a a clever name, but that can be remedied soon. The current members at the moment are

Eoghan McDowell (The Transformer)
Cale McCoy (Rubber Legs)
and Chris May (No Nickname yet)

Chris is by far the best player out of the three, though he needs to work on string length, but thats being fixed. He usually lands like strings of 7 tricks, all guiltless. It's really awesome that we have a shredder who's better then us in our local area. To bad he can't go to SJFF, i think that would be good for him. Cale is getting really good pretty quickly, we can both land a couple fours, and a lot of threes. So thats about it for now. I'll try and get Chris to register here so he can post here, as well as Cale. Shred on everyone, and wish us luck in sticking with our footbag careers.

Ok, so i have been having a tough time sticking with footbag lately, but that changed tonight. I had an awesome shred session after 3 days of break. I focused this session pretty much entirely on BOP drills and guiltless tricks. I figured since my tiltless was so strong, it was time to work on some 3's. Now the one 3 that always got me was butterfly. I used to not be able to hit 3 infinities consistently. But today i felt a huge improvement in that area. My butterflies felt good today, for the first time since i started playing. I was landing the buuterfly>osis>Pdx mirage bs like cake. I even did it bsos a couple times, which feels awesome. All in all it was an awesome session with some huge improvement. I feel really good about myself and footbag, and i can't wait to shred with all the players at SJFF. Now here are some highlights from this session.

Blur
Terrage, incredibly close to flipside
clipper>ss double pickup
I think i might be able to hit barrage really soon
a bunch of whirls, bs
some good strings with a bunch of twos and threes.
i guess thats it. Hopefully I'll be able to post some much more exciting stuff soon. Cya around everyone, and at SJFF! I'm just so freakin excited, my first footbag event, it'll be awesome.

Ok heres an update. Had a tiny session with Cale yesterday, but it became dark way to soon so we had to head home. There we made a make shift shred spot and tried to play, but we just weren't that into it. Here are some highlights for a short session

Cale hit clipper>diving osis which was pretty cool
5th level triforce drill for me, that was awesome, i was thinking i would keep going, bu i unconsciously grabbed the bag after the fifth other side clipper. I was kinda apathetic about it.
Hit terrage again, my strong side double dexes are getting way stronger, gotta work that flipside though
Again noticing improvement on my butterflies.
Osis is my favorite move again, i just love it so much, it's my bail, along with mirage, but I'm trying to replace clippers with Osis and Butterflies, i wanna start incorporating those tricks into my runs. I mean i wanna progress two. All my tiltless is pretty much great, i get consistent runs of 15-20 with them, so I'm starting to work on 3 adds. Cale wore some shoes to the session which i don't think are as god as his lavers, so i didn't see much from him except his usual stuff, though he does throw way more butterflies then me, he's got those down pretty good, now he needs to work infinities like crazy. Can't for the session tomorrow, hope Chris can make it out, that would be sweet. Well thats it, until next time. Shred on friends, shred on.

Is that a different Chris May than has been playing for a number of years already? I was wondering what happened to "Chris May"... the Asian(?) guy? Who was hitting diving blender in his last video?

Ok. Just got back from SJFF two days ago, and it was AWESOME. It was cool because me and Cale were the first footbaggers there, and this guy from the Seattle Times started taking pictures of us. He took a bunch, but the only one that made into the paper was the one of Cale and I doing some double freestyle, which we suck at, so it was kinda funny. But yeah as the festival went on we met a bunch of cool people, and bought some amazing bags. Aaron Shepered makes amazing bags, and such a small cost. Cale bought three of em, and i got one. He's also a really cool overall guy. Gave Cale a bunch of tips on sticthing. One of the cool things that happened was that i got some advice on my form, and now I feel i play like ten times better. I didn't hit very many new tricks, but i got some sweet links, and some long runs. Cale also discovered that he wants to be a barefoot shredder. I guess his feet are big enough, so whatever. I couldnt play barefoot to save my life, so it seems wierd to me, but whatever. All in all it was an awesome trip, and it was worth the 9 hour drive up there. Can't wait to see all you guys again. Shred on
