If you could go back in time...

Post by CIC flurry »

Imagine you're a top player now, and you had to go back in time to some era in footbag and show people.

What era would you go to?
How would that change present day footbag?

There's no era that would be impressed with my footbag but I would make longer shorts look rad.

or visit my past self at a young age and teach that little bastard a good strong work ethic and effective time management. And for God's sake, ask that chick out already!

or make soccer cool in North America and make fun of people that played baseball.

or go back and be a net and freestyle champion while it was still possible

or go back and take the red pill

or get a Paul Munger, Lonn Irish and Mike Wilson bag for my collection

or get everybody hooked on 4-square

Love this topic. I've wondered about this a few times myself...

I guess I have a few answers, but one I'll throw out there for now:

1. I'd send Ianek back to 1998 or 1999, to show the footbag world that adds do not matter, and that there's more to aspire to than cookie-cutter tripless moves.

Ooooh... I'd send present day Vasek back to whup up on Kenny at his prime (first we'd teach Vasek to be a trash talker). I love Kenny, but can you imagine the ripple effect if he wasn't the top dog?

I'm better at thinking about footbag than playing footbag, so...

I'd get the ADD system started on the right foot, so that it could be descriptive of the move as well as a real indicator of difficulty.

Edit: I'd also go back & visit myself at like age 15 or something & get myself started playing footbag at an earlier age.

I think a cool question would be "if you did go back in time and change something, how would it effect you now?"

But yeah, if I could go back in time I'd start playing earlier. I guess that's the only thing I can think of. I wouldn't have as much drive to get better as I do now though.

I'd go back to stop you from stopping him, and while I'm there I'd have a child with Linda Hamilton, and she'd train that child, and he'd go on to to become the greatest footbagger the world have ever seen.

I would go back and replace Linda Hamilton with her twin sister Leslie. Then I would train the child to be the most badass 4-square player the world has ever seen.

I found this when looking back to see how far back Damon would have to go...

Twenty major events that have occurred since the Chicago Cubs last laid claim to a World Series championship:
1. Radio was invented; Cubs fans got to hear their team lose

2. TV was invented; Cubs fans got to see their team lose.

3. Baseball added 14 teams; Cubs fans get to see and hear their team lose to more clubs.

4. George Burns celebrated his 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, 70th, 80th, 90th and 100th birthdays.

5. Haley's comet passed Earth twice.

6. Harry Caray was born....and died. Incredible, but true.

7. The NBA, NHL and NFL were formed, and Chicago teams won championships in each league.

8. Man landed on the moon, as have several home runs given up by Cubs pitchers.

9. Sixteen US presidents were elected.

10. There were 11 amendments added to the Constitution.

11. Prohibition was created and repealed.

12. The Titanic was built, set sail, sank, was discovered and became the subject of major motion pictures,
the latest giving Cubs fans hope that something that finishes on the bottom can come out on top.

13. Wrigley Field was built and becomes the oldest park in the National League.

14. Flag poles were erected on the Wrigley Field roof to hold all of the team's future World Series pennants. Those flag
poles have since rusted and been taken down.

15. A combination of 40 Summer and Winter Olympics have been held.

16. Thirteen baseball players have won the Triple Crown; several thanked Cubs pitchers.

17. Bell-bottoms came in style, went out of style and came back in.

18. The Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox and the Florida Marlins have all won the World Series.

19. The Cubs played 14,153 regular-season games; they lost the majority of them.

20. Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Oklahoma and New Mexico were added to the Union.
Forget betting money, get some souvenirs then come back to the present and bank on the auctions!

Remember you are a top player, so you don't have to break anyone's legs and assume their identity.

Something not grand but cool would be to show up a few minutes after Rippin invents blurriest and then hit nemesis.

You know, even if you aren't a top player in 2008, you'd still be damn good in the late 90s. I remember at 99 worlds Rippin said he'd induct anybody into BAP who could hit 10 unique tripless on the spot. In 2007 Byrin didn't make BAP. So really, even if you are a competent intermediate, or an over-the-hill guy like me, you'd still kick some ass in the mid-late 90s.

I like that idea too. In my case I'd hit this.

I would invent nemesis and sit on a bench in the park and just chill with cool music and a good book.
