How did PK get super-featured on YouTube, FOOTBAG needs this

so I go on YouTube today and all the featured vidoes are on Parkour. How did they hook this up!!! We need to do this for footbag! Any ideas?

I saw this too. Parkour is pretty popular though, unlike footbag.

Anyways, it looks like the featured videos were picked by one person today (it says all featured videos picked my slamcamspam, who is a director). Maybe if we could get one of our youtube directors for footbag to apply for this or something. Hard to say really.

Ya, the parkour guys got that hooked up by being awsome. Parkour is far more interesting to watch than footbag, especially if you don't play footbag. I wish I had the balls to get really hardcore about parkour.... it's so cool.

Hopefully there are things we can do to get featured, but I'm surprised that you're surprised to see Parkour getting featured. They had it coming, for suuure.

Yeah, I'm lacking the balls for parkour too. I started to do it but I ended up stopping after my practicing ended up really not getting me anywhere and i got skin peeled off my shin going over a fence. But yeah, they seem to really try to get a lot of exposure, and they do get it a lot of the time too

Why don't we all just start lying in our videos? Just replace "footbag" with "football" or "soccer." Everyone will be like "This isn't soccer. Oh well, lets watch it anyway." If everything is perfect, we could make everyone think it really is freestyle football, then not only gain popularity, but wipe actual freestyle football off the map. Or you could just not listen to me.

Hahaha the funny thing is I did that for my recent video, putting in "football and soccer" and I got a freestyle football player bashing me via messages now saying how footbag is child's play and how he has been playing since I was born and how footbag is not nearly as technical as freestyle football. I guess they really don't like our kind. either that or they are jealous that we are so much cooler.

Sorry for possibly asking a pessimistic question, but how much difference do you think having footbag featured on youtube would actually make? Footbag's been in Hollywood movies, it's been on national TV, it's been at major sporting events and we all play in public. Maybe it's always going to be only played by a small percentage of people. Most people in our society find it impossible to play or understand and don't have the desire or the mental strength to ever change this. Will seeing the sport actually make a difference?

I've heard people express similar opinions to Jeremy, that more exposure probably makes no difference. Personally, I completely disagree. Takumi posted a new video today which kicked ass, and one of the first things I thought was: that Pepsi campaign we did in 2003 really paid off. Even if nobody else learned footbag because of it, and even if nobody else in Japan recognizes footbag more now, just by the fact that it got Takumi into footbag made the exposure worth it to me.

Ryan Mulroney got into footbag because of a small clip he saw on MTV, which is a similar thing.

If we did manage to get footbag on the front page of YouTube do I think it will make footbag popular overnight? Obviously not. Do I think it might get a few kids to try footbag? Probably. And if any of those kids gets serious about it, or gets good, then the exposure will be a smashing success by my standards.

its because of a penske trick demo on youtube that i got into footbag. so i agree that it would help spread the sport by getting a few people (like me) into the sport

Yeah sure, it seemed the discussion was more suggesting that getting footbag featured on youtube would make a massive difference to the popularity of the sport. I'm sure if it was featured in a few years there would be a few players who were inspired to play because of that, but would the larger trend of the popularity of the sport change? How much time and effort should be invested into such a project, and what returns can we expect?

you, i, and anyone else with half a brain knows there's no way to accurately predict whether or not putting footbag into a certain social spotlight (youtube, a sports drink sponsorship, a talent show participant, minor role in a hollywood movie (see: zohan), etc) will yield the massive difference in the popularity of the sport that some players seek. in my mind there isnt going to be one big change in the popularity of footbag, its going to be gradual. obviously. even if like david beckham, the pope, the dalai lama, and chuck norris all endorsed footbag as the new, cool, sport, you still probably wouldnt see more than a half dozen more footbag players per town.

im not sure how big of a step getting footbag featured on youtube would be. but a lot of these little steps (see above examples) is what will make a noticable difference.
