skill level? He's still pretty new at it. But Nathan has more enthusiasm about footbag in his pinky than a lot of footbaggers out there. He's got serious ambition. It's cool he got sponsored (whatever that does for a player) and it'll be fun to watch his game develop more over the next year or two.

he should be on modified.

How does someone get sponsored? How does a sponsor pick one person over another?

Gahh, I really want to give him a big pile of tips. Little timing shifts, plants to remove, toe stalls to avoid.. Is he coming to TO Jam?

It looks like he needs to play with experienced players.

That video is old, nathan is almost fully tiltless now and his form is constantly improving.

I think he got sponsored because he made his own website (http://www.nathanfootbag.com/ - with more up to date videos) and is pretty young..

Hopefully he'll make it out to Toejam with us.

I actually think it's cool Nathan got sponsored. His sponsorship does nothing to hurt the sport. Are they claiming he's a world champion? No. Are they saying he's an amazing footbagger? Yes. And by most of the public's standards, this is undeniably true. I've personally never played with a dragonfly footbag, but at least it's a 32 panel and is footbag sized. That alone makes it better than most crocheted guatemalan bags, etc. I dunno, I just don't see the harm in any of this. Footbag is getting some local exposure, it's an actual freestyle footbagger who's doing it, and Nathan's having some fun while he's at it. They're not even asking him to sell out very much. When I did stuff for Pepsi and Nestle, I had to at least wear corporate logos and sometimes even use crappy bags.

I'm honestly a bit surprised at the negative response this seems to be getting. I think we should be happy for Nathan, and if people want sponsorships, this should inspire them to go out and get some.

I kind of have a mixed view on this. Overall, if I were to get the opportunity to play for Dragonfly Footbags, even if they do suck very badly, I would probably take it for a free pair of Quantums and the opportunity to design a bag or whatever the hell they offer. He isn't great, but that's not his fault for being sponsored, it's Dragonfly's.

On the other hand, I'd never accept a sponsorship from these guys:

Whoa whoa whoa! Is my response considered negative???

I first asked how someone gets sponsored.

Then I said I would like to help him get even better.

Then I asked if he was coming to TO Jam.

Then I commented that it'd be helpful for him to play with more experienced players because that is almost always true and they can help iron out kinks.

Where is the negativity?

Good on Nathan, he has a situation many of us covet.
