ducking clippers

Post by smokefree »

SET>DUCK [BOD]>OP CLIP [XBD][DEL]

I can duck from toe and catch in clipper. But I cant clipper to duck.. I just can't seem to get it high enough and when I do it seems to be in the wrong direction. How do you get it to pop up high? I tryed using force but that didnt work too well.

for me it helps me alot to use the force of your support foot to get it up there, try not using as much force with the setting foot as much, and more force with the setting foot :P

i hope that helps

I also use alot of my support leg to get the extra distance, because just using your knee to swing it up there isn't enough. It helps (obviously) to get both in 'harmony' so to speak, so that you can get the maximum height. Try toe setting the bag as high as humanly possible, you'll notice that your support leg gets a nice "hop". Try and mimic that with the clipper. About the bag going in the wrong direction, is it going consistently wrong? Because if it isn't, I'd guess that you are just using to much swing in your clipper foot, thus being uncontrollable.

I originally had this problem when I tried to learn ducking from clipper as well. I think the most important thing is when doing the clipper that is going to be setting the bag, to do it VERY deep and very controlled. Basically delay the shit out of it as best you can. Cushion it as much as possible by bending the support leg as much as you can, to the point where the clipper foot almost touches the ground. Using crank is OK, but the majority of your delay cushion should come from a really deep bend in the support leg. This will allow your body a much bigger setting range of motion on the way back up. So try really deeply-delayed clippers and setting out of them. Practice it for a while, part of it is also just having really strong clippers.

Hard work is the only way to learn Ducking. Don't skool it from toe though, it's harder to clean and your Clippers need the training to set well.

You can start by just trying to set the bag as high as possible (from Clipper).
And when you got it higher than your head is, you can start trying to aim it for Ducking.

i too have problems with this. i can get clipper really high but it always lands more to the right front than i expect. so it moves from left behind to right forward, and im loosing balance. 50% of the time its strafing my body (ear, shoulder, chest) which leads to drop. besides im not a graphic pro i put up this pic:

Image

my question is, where do you start/catch clipper?

i use to start at 3 but it lands on 4, and i loose balance. i think all variations are possible.
1 to 4 is the easiest imo, cuz its right next to the head and you just gotta hold the head down and bring the hip in a straight position while it passes at the forehead. then turn the hip to the other side and catch it. your head wont have to move a lot. i think pros dont like this because its too much in front of you and the hip is turned in really much or your doing more a "4" than putting knees together.
2 to 5 is a little more difficult cuz its further away from the body, you you have to move a little back while bag is passing over the head. but theres less hip turning than with 1 to 4.
3 to 6 is the most common i think, but the most difficult as well. you gotta do a whole step back while it passes your neck as well as straighten your hip. after it has passed make a step forward into origin position and turn the hip for other clipper position. your head must really turn to the bag and your shoulders are really turned to the bag when catching.
i assume that all sets are straight.

please correct me if you think im wrong. these are my thoughts, remember im not so good at ducking clipper. i noticed some people dont do a real duck movement (put the head/upper body down) but just shake the head a bit. is that bad form? what do you think is better, is it just style?

and pleasssse pleaaaaaseeee dont forget...

Well ive been managing to pop it up but still off on aiming. It goes like... straight up like a rocket so i have to hop to the left to duck it. Anyway I think ducks look better if you do the head dip. Cause people watching are like wtf.

I find the best way to do it is to set the bag in the direction of your face looking down at the bag. At the last second, duck your head out of the way.

Hope that helps.

edit: Oh ya. Everyone, you can start posting your ducking clippers too. Do as many as you want... not necessarily just 4.

My only critique on them is your set. You could probably set them like 2 cm lower, and straighter. The bag peaks on the opposite side of your neck, which gives it an uneven feel. A straighter set would fix that.

Other than that they're pretty much perfect. In my opinion at least. I'll post mine tomorrow.

I liked em....Maybe have them peak lower so theres more of a head-whipping motion under the bag, rather than just lowering your head a little. I dunno watch clavens :)

I agree that a straighter set might make the trick easier on you, not that you dont already make it look easy. I think practicing weaving clipper will help. Try to do at least 20 ducking clippers in a row at least once a session. Good luck and Ill post some ducking clippers how i do them.

good drill Ducking clipper, diving clipper, weaving clipper
also ducking oasis, ducking clipper

my contact record using variations of ducking, diving, weaving, zulu, ducking osias is around 65 or 66 .

I watch a shit load of Lon's ducking.

thx, guys. I've really been working on setting at the right hight, but that's a finiky business... gotta keep working at it. I don't know about this whole straighter set stuff; I hadn't really considered it. I'll try it, next session.
