Bags on a plane

Has anyone ever brought a led filled bag in there carry on bags before? I figured it would be good to have with me to use while waiting for the plane, but would they take it away from you in security? I just thought it might look suspicious to anyone who doesnt play footbag... Or if its in your regular suitcase (the one you dont take with you), they scan those to and can take stuff out if its suspicious. Hope you can help.

I have done this many times. There is a few weird looks and then they get even weirder when you tell them it is lead SHOT. But as long as the shot did not come out a shotgun shell, there should be no traces that would set off the alarm.

I brought a few carry on adn quite a few in my suitcase.

Just tell them it is an expensive hacky sack.

Yeah the security should just look in your bag, pick them up and put them back in. If he asks what they are or what they're made of, just tell him the truth.

When I read the title of this thread I thought it was going to be some knockoff of snakes on a plane...

Somone should do that for footbags...lol...

Back on topic though. I have brought like a dozen lead filled footbags on a plane before and they said nothing so you should be fine.

I have the same problem.
I'm flying tomorrow.
a sand filled bag is no problem.

but I think I'll put my steal/lead/tungsten filled bags in the suitcase.

They're just way too much worth!!!

i brought back a clear plastic bag of about 5 pounds of lead shot from chicago at nyj last year.... the security asked me what it was, i told him, and he let me take it through, i didnt believe it then.

I've brought a ton of filler and bags for sale on my carry-on and in my suitcase to Worlds last year. Just explain your case that it's for footbag, and they'll let you through.

It's sewing materials for bags that can be an issue, and you'll have to check your airline's policy on what you can and cannot bring on your carry-on. Like, I think extremely small scissors that toddlers can use can be brought on the plane, and small needles and lighters are allowed. Obviously there is no smoking on the plane itself, so be aware that lighting your lighter on the plane can fuel some crazy tobacco addicts to light their cigarettes on the plane.

FYI, don't put your toothpaste in your carry-on. I had it confiscated when returning from Worlds.

I don't think you can bring scissors OR needles on the plane. No sharp objects. It's been a while since I've flown, but I would just throw that in your suitcase to be safe.

My only problem was shipping a bag one time. It was to go overseas and it got to customs and was rejected due to suspicous material. The post office called me up and when I went to pick it up they made me open it in front of them. Maybe with the steel shot it looked like a grenade on the x-ray.. Ha, I just turned around and sent it back out, they would not budge on the postage....

I'm paranoid about it and never take more than one bag.
Tom and Pengpeng brought me 15lbs of steel shot at Worlds 07, which I didn't think about bringing back across the border. At customs I told them that they were "little metal balls" used to fill hacky sacks. It's still totally 100% the truth, it just doesn't set alarm bells ringing with security when you say "steel SHOT"...

Sandbags might be a problem for some countries.
I bought some sandbags and they are now quarantined and awaiting destruction
