free music composition software

I'm looking for a free music writing program. I'm looking to do arrangements for certain songs for pep band, and I don't have much time to write them, hence the need for something quick and cheap. All I'm really looking for is something basic, but if anyone knows anything good that's free, I'll take it. Oh, and Finale Notepad 2008 doesn't work on my computer for some reason

so don't suggest that.
