Ego Trippin' with Ken Somolinos

Post by colefieldhouse22 »

Here is a video I made of Ken Somolinos:

http://www.vimeo.com/2791837
http://www.footbag.org/gallery/show/16329

A couple of notes: YouTube has been worthless lately, bad quality and wouldn't upload the whole video. So that is why I went with Vimeo again. The Vimeo video is a bit choppy and I can't figure out why. All the videos on that site seem to be doing it.

The footbag.org version is working great, so I definitely think it would be worth watching it there. Also, its a bit larger that I would like, but I haven't figured out how to compress it smaller with out loosing the quality.

But anyway, I hope ya'll enjoy it.

adrienne, thanks for putting the video together.

wow, great, intense shred ken.

lots of great links in there. loved toe flurry > inspinning torque (ken, have you hit pixie flurry? from the looks of it, you have plenty of time to add in that first pixe dex.)

flurry > pixie bounce (?) double over down was a trip.

huge props on the quads. blurry flurry 8O and of course fracture

WOW!! Not to spoil anything but Blurry !@%$$# was sick. My favorite thing however was same toe with the double around the worldish set. Good Job Ken. Thanks For the video.

Nice video Ken,

Be careful with your atomic sets, some are coming out slurry.

I liked the shuffle a lot.

Eggbeaters seem clean, but toey.

That duck out of vortex was just wild, surprised me.

I still think you need to just cut out the paradox mirages out of left clipper entirely, its just too predictable at this point. I think it would give you a good excuse to practice illusions instead. Yea watching it again...too many pardox mirages out of that clipper.

I really enjoyed everything else, especially the p.s whirls those look solid, surprised I didn't see any whirlwinds.

Thank you for all the nice comments everybody, and super huge thank you to Adrienne for making this! I'm really happy with how this vid came out; thanks for making me look good Age. :)

Some quick responses/observations.

1. As Age pointed out, Vimeo is often a little bit choppy. The download from footbag.org works perfectly though.

2.
exudedex wrote:My favorite thing however was same toe with the double around the worldish set.
I assume you mean the set I used for TATW and enterrage? It's pretty much like a low fast pixie set with a tight second dex around the apex. I think of it kinda like a 1.5 dex set. I'm a little nervous about how good it is for my knee, so I don't think I'll play around with it too much.

In my opinion, if a trick is toey it cannot be clean. I looked at the whole video frame by frame on Age's computer before she released the video, and the eggs looked fine to me. I agree with you about the atomic set on tapping eggbeater though.

4. I've never hit pixie flurry, but I'll give it a try in the spring when I get back into playing regularly again. My strong flurry and strong pixie line up, and it seems theoretically easier than BF, so I should have a decent shot at it.

5. The turtle on the wall is Testudo, the University of Maryland's mascot.

6. I agree that I do strong pdx mirage too much, and I've been trying to scale it back in my game. That said, is it that much worse than other bails like butterfly or osis? I do strong pdx mirage because its my best "reset" trick; if I do one, I can catch my breath and my thoughts, and go for a longer, more interesting string. When I hit blurry flurry in this vid, for example, I consciously did butterfly-pdx mirage to catch my breath, because I wanted to seal it with a good run. By my count, I hit about one pdx mirage every 12 tricks in this video, which I don't think is a bad ratio at all, especially considering how energy intensive some of the tricks/combos were that preceded them (ie, PSWx6).

7. Toe mobius= toebius.

8. All footage was shot on/near the University of Maryland in October and November of 2008.

9. Thank you again for making this Age, you're the best.

This is what I have to look forward to in Feb? Pssh! Please, I know you're better than this! Don't put out vids with below average shred!

HAHAHAHAHAHA JOKING!!!!!!

Great vid! Props on the quad! Lots of sweet combo's here and there. Tapping Egg looks like fun, I might give it a try. I can't wait till you make it out here in Feb. Hopefully we'll be able to get more than one session in while you're here.

Thanks for taking the time to record and edit this Age!

I liked that video a lot, many great tricks and links, Double Spinning Eclipse was a highlight for me :) I have a question for you Ken, though - do you know what is the reason behind the fact that you bail to Pdx Mirage instead of Osis from your left Clipper? :)

Pozdrawiam

Wow, Ken! It was impressive! I kinda don't like your style but on this video it was so crazy that I had to love it :). I think it's because of throwing unexpected tricks midrun like Ducking after Vortex or Double Spinning Eclipse! Muchos propsors! :D

That was tons of fun Ken. I've watched it, like, 6 times now. The trick selection and combos were really fresh. Basically all of the short bursty clips were radical. And the longer runs seemed more mixed-up too. I'm on the pdx mirage boat too. I think the reason that it looks weird is because it seems to change the flow of shred -- it doesn't seem like a natural transition. Like, you pause a moment on the dex (or something). Hope that helps.

My favourite part was the reaction to the last big trick/run. I'd love to hear the original sound for that :D
Thanks guys.
