Challenge the newb! Quest to tiltless

Post by Nitrox »

In an effort to stay motivated I have decided to start a challenge me thread...
It's tough to keep on going when there's no one around to play with (I know, I could start a club or whatever but I'm kinda lazy :)), so a challenge thread seemed like a good idea

Below is a list of what I can do, current challenges, and challenges met

Please feel free to post up any challenges, near or far, to help me on my road to tiltless!

*Challenge Guide*
My goal is to reach tiltless solidly before moving onto any 3adds so please any drills/strings/etc that might help me achieve that :)

1 = Can hit it sometimes, but not reliably
1x = I can hit it reliably but have trouble working it into strings
#x = that many alternating
x = down solid

Current Status (can hits):
0 add
Inside Kicks - 21x
Outside Kicks - 4x
Toe Kicks - 5x
1 add
Toe Delay - 33x
Inside Delay - 4x
Outside Delay - 2x
2add
Clipper Delay - 1 (rarely, they suck, still doing wraps and training to get them better)
ATW In - 1x
ATW Out - 3x
Legover - 2x
Pickup - 1x
Mirage - 1

Active Challenges:
Toe Stall > Toe Stall > Legover > rpt x4
ATW each way, each foot X2
Toe Stall > no plant Inside > opp Toe > no plant Inside rpt x4
5x ss Clippers no plant, bs
Clipper > Near Pickup > rpt
Clipper > Far Legover > rpt
10x Alternating Toe kicks
10x Alternating Outside kicks
10x Alternating Inside stalls
10x Alternating Outside stalls
Hit Illusion
Mirage > Legover rpt
Illusion > Pickup rpt

Completed Challenges:
Hit Mirage
10x Alternating Toe stalls
10x Alternating Inside kicks

here's some easy drills i still do to warm up,

mirage>legover repeat for as many contacts as possible haha

illusion>pickup

and how about 10 inside stalls, you really should strengthen these they help soo much with clipper
cool
Good luck man!

Thanks Tom!
I'll get working on these soon as I get home tonight :P

Also...seeing as I haven't hit mirage or illusion yet (but I'm getting close!) I infered that hitting those was also a challenge, hehe

More please!
Anything from hit this trick, do this many alternatings, or hit this string

most definitely thats a part of the challenge :]
its tough at first but the basics are really the hardest stuff to learn as they are completely new ways of moving, once you have them down other tricks come a lot quicker, at least they have for me!

the reason for those drills on top of just hitting mirage/illusion is being able to/comfortable with playing out of them

wish you luck im sure youll be shreddin it up in no time

You really need to work those kicks.

Therefor:
10 inside kicks alternating feet
10 outside kicks alternating feet
10 toe kicks alternating feet

Also:
10 inside stalls alternating feet
10 outside stalls alternating feet
10 toe stalls alternating feet

Outside might not be necessary but if you wanna learn fairy (yes it really helps) you need to work it.

Inside kicks and stalls are important to have down if you wanna learn pixie and clipper well.

Do 20 clipper stalls each day while watching television or such.
Do it like this Clipper > Handcatch > Clipper > Handcatch ...

How much difference is there between your good and your bad side?
You need to try get them even already in the beginning.

Most important of all..

HAVE FUN!

Updated first post

Thanks for the challenges Asmus

My strong and flipside are pretty close...
Clippers are a little easier with my left foot (so left foot on right side of body clipper is called a right or left clipper?), but not a big difference (both sides suck, lol)
And for dexes, out->in dexes are easier on my right, and in->out are easier on left, but I'm schooling them to get them solid on both sides

Not playing this weekend (valentines day and whatnot) but I'll get to work on the other challenges soon as I can! ;)

5 clippers in a row on each side without planting
Clipper>Near Pickup>rpt.
Cliper>Far Legover>rpt.

These might help you with your clippers a little bit more. Once you get used to the feeling of clipper and start to develop the muscles used while doing it they become a lot easier.

toe stall>toe stall> legover> repeat X4
around the world each way, each foot X2
toe stall> no plant inside same foot> opp toe> no plant inside same X4

Ok, wasn't able to hit any of them tonight but I'm REALLY close to like 4 or 5 of them!

The mirage, illusion, and clipper ones are still a bit ways away but the others I'm hoping to hit in the next few days :)

hey buddy. i used to bag years ago (only for a few months) but was busy with college and work so i lost interest but now im starting again and im around the same level you are, just a lil more consistent. I cant officially start baggin again until i beat my cancer(hopefully 1 more month) but i can kick for a few mins. a day before i gt too tired(damn chemo!). anyways, someone from here posted a great way to drill those 2 adds and learn to go tiltless. it goes like this:

get your fav. cd or play list (each song should be around the same, 5 mins or so) and hit play continuously and after each song, switch to the next drill.
Song 1: Kicking
Song 2: ATW
Song 3: Flip ATW
Song 4: Legover
Song 5: Flip Legover
Song 6: Mirage
Song 7: Flip Mirage
Song 8: Clipper
Song 9: Flip Clipper
Song 10: pickup
Song 11: Flip pickup
Song 12: Kicking
Song 13: Stretching
Ethan Wise

diagnosed with testicular cancer dec. 30, 08.

must beat it to start baggin' again!
