Does anyone play "HORSE"?

Post by Toasty »

Or, as it's sometimes called in skateboarding, "SKATE." You have one person set a trick, and everyone after attempts to recreate the same trick. If one fails, they get a letter. First one to spell out HORSE loses. I'm pretty sure there are some people here who have applied this to footbag, I was just curious as to who plays.

When I skated, I remember playing SKATE with people much better than me, really helped me learn new tricks. When it was my turn to set or land a trick that was already set, being under that kind of pressure helped me maintain my focus and pushed me to land the trick. That's how I landed my first pop-shoveit late 180.

we played at funtastik, like this - everyone takes 1 shot each trying to get a trick. If someone gets a trick, everyone else gets 3 shots to hit it.

I played on sunday, just Ryan Thomas and I. The next day, it was Ryan T, Dave Byers, myself, Nathan Pipenburg, Drew Martin, and David Clavens. Now that was one hell of a game of horse.

I was introduced to this style of play by the Berlin crew, a few days after worlds. It's a great game for experienced but lazy players like myself who can still hit some tricks, but not string so well.

Horse is fun.

Me and my club like a play sort of a "reverse" version of horse. Essentially, players take turns doing tricks in a circle. Once a trick is hit it is not allowed to be hit by other players. We set an add minimum (for our level its usually 5 adds), to eliminate all the basic tricks right off the bat. If you fall too far behind the trick leader (whoever has hit the most unique tricks), say 2 or 3 tricks behind, your out. Last man standing wins.

You can vary the game however you like (number of attempts, add minimum).

I enjoy this game because it rewards players who hit unique tricks and have varied games. It also pushes you to think outside your normal selection of tricks.

I like to play "trick for trick" and not keep score. It's basically horse or "shred" as I like to call it. I also like playing challenge where you just challenge someone to a trick, link, combo, whatever you agree upon. You get 4 tries, first shot, doublay, trueblay, and MDK (murder death kill) Most fun I ever had with footbag was with that game, thanks to K-Crow.

I've played the way stated above, and also the string version. The player whose turn it is starts by hitting a trick, then the next person hits that trick plus another contact, and so on. We played a bit of informal Horse at the montreal jam, but did links, and n that sense it was a little mmore like request comp.
