Vasek Manual Discussion

Post by Luis »

I just got a copy of that Vasek Maunal to Footbag that Dan Ednie put together. I haven't had a chance to get through it all but got through most of it and was wondering what people thought about it. I looked at the thread for the product in the for sale section, but it was just questions about buying it and I didn't see another thread for it. I was curious if anyone had any responses to Vasek's points of views or anything.

I definatley thought it was cool to kind of see how Vasek thinks about footbag. And appreciate the effort that Dan went through in putting it together, cause it is sweet to read. I like to discuss movies or books after I get through them, but I don't know anyone near me that has read this so I thought I'd see what modified had to say.

My reaction so far has definatly been a bit surprised. I didn't expect it to be all Zen and so philosophical sounding. I guess, I am not the most spiritual person so it may just be a perspective that I wouldn't generally think of on my own.
  • I thought that tora stuff was kinda like being in the "zone." With emphasis on being conscious of it and taking advantage of that state of mind to improve your game. Kind of being a really explicit way of explaining a mental approach, something difficult to put into words.

The other thing that caught my eye was the diet recommendations.
Is that not eating for one day a week really a good idea?
I don't think I've ever tried specifically not eat and was curious to try this out at least once.

I also thought that the experience for Dan in putting together sounded really cool. Taking a trip to Prague and spending time with Vasek and getting insight into his views on stuff. This kind of reminded me of some like Kung-Fu (tv show), or Carlos Castaneda, teachings of don juan (book), thing. Also the tone of the text as a whole kind of reminded me of that book Ishmael. Because it seemed to me to be much more of a bigger picture and talking about a whole bunch of things in order to talk about footbag. At least for the begginging part, where its not like trick tips.
Thanks again to Dan and Vasek for putting it together. It was cool to read.

What do you think?
