advice on a new bag

Post by drillbit »

I currently play with three bags.

-mr. sandman
-custom heavy bag (maybe a bearbag, golf ball sized and heavy)
-juice facile (10yrs + old big and light) plastic filled)

i try to play with all three at every session. the Juice can be kicked and played in freestyle, the heavy bag seems to be a strickly freestyle bag, and the Sandman is OK for kicking and freestyle but does neither markedly well.

my juice is wearing thin and i have probably gotten more years out of it than i should have..... :D

what i am looking for is a bag that can be kicked, that will break in to a good freestyle bag. Best example i have for this is the Juice, so i was looking at going for one of those again but thought that maybe an Elemental may be another option. kickking is core to my daily training sessions as i initially kick for a bit, thein kick and add in delays for a bit, then swtch to delays only with a heavy bag, then delays alternating heavy and light/floppy (ie sandman), then cool down with kicking and stretching.

thoughts?

I'm sure there are many bags that fall into this category, but I'd like to recommend the bags that my brother-in-law makes. His modified handle is "etbwalster" and you can see some of his work in the Bag's You've Made thread.

I suggest them because they are well-stitched 32s (3-stitch bags) filled with a stainless steel disc filler. The discs are extremely small and give the bag the feel of being filled with "metal sand" in all aspects save weight. The weight is such that the bag can be kicked for much of its lifetime without fear of undue stress on either panels or stitching. Bags filled with tungsten or lead and made out of amaretta, on the other hand, seem to lend themselves better to a lifestyle of delays performed over smooth or carpeted surfaces.

I've had two of his bags and they kick extremely well and, once broken in, set and delay very nicely (the reduced weight-per-piece of the disc filler makes kicking an option and when the facile breaks in enough, stalling is choice).

Sorry for the text wall -- shoot him a PM if you decide to go with one... I don't recall what he's charging these days but I think it's an abysmally low price as he's sitting on a decent amount of stock and is more so looking to get his name out there at this point.
