(confusion over)peeking
EDIT:
After much discusion, mostly BS on my part, these are what I understand peeking and sonic to mean.
peeking- a backspin followed by a move with a backspin that spins you back the other way.
ex. peeking osis, peeking dyno, peeking blender
jobs- clip> backspin> backspin move
sonic- a backspin followed by another backspin and then any downtime move
jobs- clip>backspin>backspin>any move
ex, sonic osis, sonic pdx whirl, sonic ss butterfly.
What follows is what lead me to these conclusions

i am confused.
so you "peek" twice on "peeking osis"?
is this right?:
clip set > half backspin > spot and pause
> half backspin > spot and pause
> osis
is this what you are saying peeking osis is? if not i am very confused. but i was always under the impression that gyro and peeking were similar if not the same thing. you havent really convinced me that im wrong yet. i was always under the impression that sonic is what you are describing as peeking. a double peek. where you peek (spot) the bag twice.
tell me where im wrong. i read your post a few times through but im not following.

chan,
wicked winsor is under the same inpression as you that gyro and peeking were similar. I was under a very different impression. perhaps I am wrong but I think I'm right.
the way you described peeking osis to start your post is correct, from my view.
sonic is the same as peeking but an opposite side component.
sonic legover= clip>backspin>backspin>opposite side legover. the clipper and legover are the same foot.
sonic osis= clip>backspin>backspin>opposite side osis. the clip and osis anre done with the same leg
The definition of peeking and sonic fit my descriptions based on the fundamental set list in one of the forms.

OK so the act of "peeking" is the act of spinning, spotting, and spinning back. The difference b/t peeking and sonic is weather you do the end component on the same side or opposite side.
Lon smith does a Sonic osis on one of the monsterhack videos both sides.
the difference between a whirl and a peeking whirl is the 2 backspins.
the difference between a pdx whirl and a sonic whirl is the 2 backspins.
gyro whirl is gyro whirl
I think the confusion arises with the fact that a spinning ss osis(gyro osis) is a peeking CLIPPER
The difference b/t a clipper and a peeking clipper is the 2 back spins

so youre saying sonic is double spinning? (i was confused at first by your desciption of same foot setting clipper and osis, because that adds a spin.) you mean that peeking and sonic are BOTH double spinning but one is same side and one is op side? like peeking is spinning gyro and sonic is double spinning? or am i completely thrown off by the gyro? i dont think that gyro and peeking are the same.
how i see it:
gyro clipper = gyro clipper
gyro osis = gyro osis = peeking osis
peeking involves a half backspin, spot, and change in spin direction. therefore (by my view) the spot must be followed by another spin, whether it be the 'spin' involved in osis, or the spin involved in merkon. the spin is what differentiates the peeking in gyro osis from gyro clipper.
maybe the set list has a mistake? (i hadnt paid attention to the peeking) or have you always viewed peeking to be a double spot? i have always known peeking osis to involve only one spot. this is what my peeking osis looks like:
clip set > half backspin > spot and pause
> osis
as for sonic. i have always known sonic as double peeking. so 'my' sonic osis would look like:
clip set > half backspin > spot and pause
> half backspin > spot and pause
> osis

"you mean that peeking and sonic are BOTH double spinning...."
yes. if you mean double spinning in the sence of
right clipper clockwise back spin>stop and spot>counter clockwise back spin> stop and ss or op component.
HOWEVER
I completely get what you are saying.
This is the same way Wicked describes things.
My view was completly different.
Would anyone else like to agree that my notion is wrong.

This has gotten totally confusing so let me try to help.
gyro clipper = peeking clipper
gyro whirl = gyro whirl = peeking whirl (they are one in the same except that there really isn't any such move as peeking whirl because it is gyro whirl)
gyro osis = peeking osis (there is really no such thing as gyro osis because gyro moves must involve a non-plainting set follow by a back spin and same dex ((so said Ken Shults the inventor of the Gyro concept on the footbag.org e-mail list)))
Sonic would be set > back spin > back spin > component

I think that peeking mean - (back) SPIN and when bag is in peek time you spot it with your eyes, and then stop the spin or change the 'twist' direction.FlexThis wrote:So indeed peeking is another term for gyro, but without the "if you plant then it's not gyro" thing.

I disagree with gryo and peeking being the same thing. AND if they are eventually made to be the same, I vote to get rid of the no plant on gryo thing and just use gryo.
Peeking : Set the bag, gryo to look at the bag, ungryo to where you started from and do a trick.
Gryo osis is peeking clipper. You wouldn't call mobius a peeking torque right ? Would you call a vortex a peeking drifter ?
I guess I think peeking is gryo set to gryo trick. If you don't get back to where you set the trick from you haven't peeked anything, your just spinning.

But...but...but [he says with immaturity]
Then peeking osis would be a gyro osis, except you plant. What do we do about that?
Can we call all planting gyros peeking? Or should we call it back spinning osis instead for clarity, and take the peek thing and call it a style choice?

You haven't peeked shit on 99% of gyro tricks, you're spinning. Peeking should be Set, spin, sight, go back to where you came from, do trick. That whole spot the bag and then go back the other way is the peeking part.
The whole gyro with a plant thing is only an issue because of the original definition of gyro. If you're going to enforce the no plant gyro, I also suggest you use blurry to mean any trick with at least one dexterity performed in a mirage like manner with each leg during the trick, where the dexterities can be seperated by other scorable components.
I think the peeking implies two body adds, and someone called peeking clipper a peeking osis.
I would suspect it was named by the same people who use words like barraging torque to describe a barraging osis//barrorque.
