the more cushionthere is, the more energy you use with every jump. i like sidewalk concrete best. plastic is ok, as long as it has little or no cushion.
They have these mats at all Planetfootbag-sponsored events, such as
the Footjam (where the above picture was taken). Shredding on these
mats is very nice really, they are very thin, and hard but still absorb
a lot of shock. Someone told me that one of them is worth 1000 bucks.
Don't know if that's true though. I also dig the sound of the steps on
those mats.

I agree, I like to bounce off the surface and know it will not give, Keep the cushion in the shoe where it belongs.
i used to get shin splints, but they go away after awhile. thats really the only reason i can see why anyone would play on a mat, to prevent shin splints. as you get better at footbag, you learn how to plant/land your feet so that your knee is always directly above your ankle, and bent at a 20-30 degree angle. using your muscles to cushion a landing is better than using the floor. you DONT wanna become dependant on anything but your body.
ok. thats true. but maybe its only a question of getting used to it. personaly i try to avoid shredding on hard surfaces. thats why i bought 4mx4m of pavigym pads. they're really awesome... you can put the different pieces togheter like in a puzzle. you can choose the colors, the degree of hardness and their size. just for in case: www.pavigym.com
I think it is too shiny. I prefer neutral colours around me when I play 'cause if the surface is too colourful, I lose my concentration.
Hope you won't think I'm fussy or something, it just ruins my playing .
That's why I like the colour of concrete.
