when i start internet explorer it always takes me to:
res://ldxsy.dll/index.html#23648

i would rather have modified as my homepage. What do I do?

BTW, I have gone up to the toolbar, internet options and have changed the home address to the modified one, but it seems to just disregard the change I make and goes right back to the above address. I do not have any viruses on my comp as I run Norton each week, so what else could be causing this?

Run a spy-ware program. It might be a little spy-ware file,use ad-aware it works the best. Other then that I don't know what could be changing it.

I'm not gonna click on it, because it looks like it might be spyware, and I don't think Norton's would pick that up anyways. If you have either AIM or MSN I can send you Ad-Aware which will pick up spyware. If that doesn't work, copy the address and open up regedit, click edit>find, paste the address there and click find. Every where you see the address, replace it with 'http://www.modified.ca/footbag.'

In the reply in this thread there's a link to a ton of programs that help prevent and destroy spyware. Some of the stuff is fairly complicated to remove and if you want you could try installing Hijackthis and then post a log with a description of your problem on that forum. They're all pretty expert like there.

Thought I should let people who dont know that http://www.adaware.com is not an ad aware program. Its actually adware, as u can tell it says ada-ware not ad aware

I have the same problem and run ad-aware frequently. I don't think your page loaded for me but it always sets my homepage to res://dbbii.dll/index.html#37049 or something?? I have viruses and spyware and everything and I need to reformat but need help >___< I can't even open kazaalite anymore and notepad closes randomly (like it won't stay open for longer than half a minute).

Colin (Serial Thrilla) has the same problem. We've ran both Spybot: Search and Destroy and also Ad-Aware (Or whichever one is by Lavasoft). I'm pretty sure he did a virus scan, but I'm not positive because I wasn't there at the moment. There was shitload of spyware and crap on his comp, but nothing that caused this problem. I've searched for the .dll file and deleted it, but it keeps coming back.

Also, Erik, Colin's Kazaa Lite is having the exact same problem. I've ran out of ideas except for a format or clean install of the OS (Windows XP Home Edition).

You know what? I was just wondering... do any of y'all who have these problems use Macs? I'm pretty sure I'm getting a Mac for college, and I'm just sick and tired of all these problems. I went to that amazingtechs forum for help, so maybe they'll be able to help me... I'm just so sick of this.

Get a Mac,I have only heard of one virsus on a mac in a long time. They may run a bit slower,but are more stable and have way less virsus attacks. Like there maybe one every 2 years or so

Or you could get a Linux box. They rock shit like whoa! Very very very secure and stable. Very compatible with Windows programs and applications with the help of a couple "emulating" system programs. Linux kicks major ass, get it. A couple distributions to check out are Red Hat, Slackware, Mandrake and Debian.

Oh and I'm not a fan of Mac's. Unless you are big into digital media, don't bother with a Mac.

Well I'm getting a Mac because of what my college recommends for Music Majors, so yeah I really AM into digital media... and I'm sick of Windows. I was just wondering what y'all use.

I just thought id say I had the same problem starting tonight. I ran ad-aware, used system restore, and nothing helped.

Id also like to add that I fucking hate these assware cocks. Like they actually think anyone is going to buy their shitty products after they invade your privacy and computer? Give anyone something to contact people with, and within a year they will find a way to abuse it. They can't call and interrupt your dinner, so they break into your computer. I should also say, anyone considering a MAC over a PC to go with it. We had viruses ransack the entire school this year a few times, and the MAC users were always the ones with absolutely no trouble. Slowness or not, they're a safer bet. Though that is also due to the fact that windows XP blows and has that easily exploitable security problem, at least microsoft wasn't dumb enough to publish it thereby giving hackers an easy way in, wait OOPs.

i have the same problems with Internet Explorer, with friggin shit like BuyCC and searchCC and other bullshit. i cant get rid of it with Ad-aware or Spybot which ive used several times in the last few months. also, when using google with IE, often u will click on a search result to go to it, and instead of going to the site u want, it just goes to this BuyCC stuff or whatever.. this can happen 2 or 3 times before actually going to where u want... sooooo annoying

so ive given up on IE and am using Mozilla... its not quite as fast and sometimes times out on sites but theres nothing invading it so far... perhaps uninstalling IE, running ur ad-destroying programs, then reinstalling IE would help?

Yeah I know. Just warning anyone who doesnt know. Someone actually told me to go to http://www.adaware.com and I thought it was suspicious then he found out it was a scam and got me the real lavasoft one.

If you are talking about the somewhat recent leak of Windows source code, you're wrong. It wasn't Windows XP that was leaked, it was Windows 2000. Also, it wasn't even near completely source that was leaked... it was bits and peices that would not have too much use to a "hacker".

He's saying that when you open IE, and it goes to that whacked out address, it's internal. That address does not exist on the internet, IE is just opening a location on your computer. Just as if you typed "c:\Windows\Blah.jpg" in internet explorer, it would open the picture file associated with that location. It's a .dll that is trying to be opened.

And Chopper, are you using Firefox 0.9? If not, definately get it
