Who will take 1st place for Women's Freestyle at Worlds?

Unfortunately there is an extremely low turn out for women's freestyle competitors at World's this year (only 4!). Who do you think will take 1st place for 2004? The reigning champion or some new blood? If Caroline beats Carol it will be the first time in I don't know how many decades that someone other than Sam Conlon or Carol Wedemeyer took 1st at Worlds. This would be epic and I know that both have been skooling a routine. I wish I could be there to see!!

I think Carol will take it again. Although I haven't heard anything about Caroline lately,so it could end up being a surprise.

Is Lise going to go? I would think she'd have a chance, but I haven't seen too much footage.

unfortunately, I don't think she will be there, but she'll most likely be competing at Euros. I've never seen her perform a routine, so I have no idea how well she kicks under pressure. Euros will no doubt be bigger for women's freestyle than worlds. Europe is the place to be for women's freestyle...I don't know why the North American womens scene is so lacking.

Sorry to make things even more grim, but I know one of the girls that is signed up for Worlds, and she is no longer planning on going, so there are only 3 female competitors

Oh no! Can't you convince her to go?!!! 3 competitors is not much of a competition. Here women's freestyle is at the highest level of play that it has ever been yet we may have the worse turnout ever!

At least next year it will be in Europe so the turnout will be better.

Convincing her to go may be possible, but I don't think she ever really meant to sign up for competition.

She is actually just a pretty skilled circle kicker who is just started to learn pixies, legovers, clipper, etc. Not at all ready to compete at any open level though.

People are allowed to sign up at the event itself too aren't they? I had just figured there would be a lot more women who would be signing up then.

the harsh reality is that there are very few dedicated women freestylers that take the sport seriously. ANyway, your friend should totally compete...at this rate, she'd place at least 4th in the WORLD...that's gotta be an encouraging factor! ANyway, currently there are so few women competitors at tournaments that all women players enter women's open...doesn't matter what your skill level is. If your friend could just go up and do some consequetive kicks (insides, outsides, toes) rhythmicly to some music and then every once in awhile throw in a stall and then finish off with pixie or an atw, or whatever her biggest trick that she feels comfortable with is, the crowd would go insane. People love watching more women get into the sport and are extremely helpful and encouraging...sometimes too helpful...especially the guys, eh

anyway, she should go for it, it's a rush and the community is excited for anyone that goes up on stage because we all know what it's like to be up there. work on her!

I sure hope they let me in! We just moved to Idaho and did not get our internet hooked up in time to register before the deadline!

Both Daryl and I wanted to compete.

Either way, we'll be there!

Yes it really is a shame that so few women are competing! But at every comp there are some late sign-ins so... Anyway, bet of luck to Caro! Oh and Carol too but as Jane said it's always cool for some new blood to take the crown, it's gives momentum to the sport!

I voted for Caro. Although I have no idea what improvements either Caro or Carol have made over the last year. But it seems like Carol has been winning the last few years pretty much on the same routine / stuff, so I think it would be nice with something new... something that shows that the level of women's freestyle is rising with time....

definately could make the top 3.

edit: should've read the posts before i replied.. ugh 3 competitors that's
grim. At the Footjam there were 14 ladies competing (!)...it's all just
because Montreal is so far away from Europe

Yeah Jane,

With such a low number of competitors, this could easily be the year you take first place at the championships, you rock!

You could still buy a plane ticket, stay with us, and beg for them to let you compete!

Freedom Footbags is willing to give $50 towards your expenses, what do you say? Any other sponsorship offers out there?

Thanks for your support guys! I really wish I could be there. Next year in Helsinki for sure, I'm already planning on it...got my skooling regimen in order.

I also want to say to Sunny, thanks for offering to help with expenses! I think that is something that will help women's freestyle. A lot of clubs/countries find ways to help expense there favorite men players, but not women...well, maybe the french helped get Sam to Euros in 2000...can't remember. Anyway, I gave Carol $100 to come to our SJFF2 event last fall and she was able to split it 50/50 to help Ann Kaplan come as well. I think you'll agree with me that those were some of the coolest women shred circles ever to partake in, eh?!!!!! So, anyway, much respect to Freedom Footbags for trying to help get me there. Unfortunately, it is time that is the issue and now some family stuff that I have to stick around for

life!

i hopefully will be regestering at last minute registration on the sunday night before worlds..and for anyone thinking of doing that, it is possible.. i spoke to yacine merzouk and all you have to do is pay a small late fee (will probably be under 10$...for more information about that check out the worlds site). but i DEFINATELY am no where near to the level of shred that caro and carol are at..i'm basically only thinking of competing for the experience and i would probably regret it if i don't.. i'm hoping that caro wins it, i watched her play this morning actually and she played well so i hope she shines in the competition.
