Posting too much?

There is a locked topic in this section that got that way I assume due to the rough responses it was getting about people who post too much. I thought I'd share my thoughts on the matter in a more civil thread.

When I first got on this site I got all out of control in an effort to raise my Rank. It was funny, but I posted something like 30 or 40 times in one day just to get out of being a "Circle Kicker". Most of those posts were one liners, one worders, or just plain stupid remarks. Then I had a day a few months back where I was truly bored at work and posted something like 8 posts in less than 5 minutes to be the "last post" in every thread, some people posted after me and I had to re-post.

I can understand the occasional whimsical desire to post for the sake of posting.
LinksYs recently got blasted by some others for posting too much. I can't say that I honestly read all of his posts, but from what I did read it didn't seem like he was out of control or anything, though there were some posts that were "just for the sake of posting" like the one that was locked. There have been a ton of discussions about "Where do you think footbag is going", but I don't think it should have brought about the response that it did (not that I'm foreign to irrate responses either

).

Anywho, I think it's fine to post a whole lot as long as you are talking about things that are worth talking about and that don't totally rehash old shit over and over and over and over again. Someone who posts props to every video isn't a bad person for posting too much. But if they go into the general footbag section and throw in some garbage about their favorite kind of cream cheese then perhaps they are posting too much.

Those are some of my thoughts.

If you're pumping out readworthy content then it's cool. But if you make ninethousand illiterate posts about how to hit a mirage and what your farts smell like that day then it's lamewad.

Tossing props on videos is key when it is deserved. It helps to encourage those who take the time to post videos (videos, of course, falling under the catagory of 'not useless crap') to keep up their hard work and to make videos to entertain us drones.

To tell you the truth, I haven't even noticed a problem with people posting too much on this forum. I used to spend alot of my time at another forum online (non footbag related), and THAT is when I saw a problem. People would post 100+ posts a day, the discussions were garbage, and every post was immature or worthless. As of now people have 40,000+ post counts. It's rediculous. Anyhow, I still hate to see people posting just to up their count. Try to make your posts have some kind of worth. Good day.

i actually don't want to raise my rank... the higher amount of posts i see from every person... just makes me think... man, they really have no life if they've posted over 1,000 posts in a matter of a couple of months.
so before every post i make... i think to myself..."is this post really worth posting?" and "will this benefit anyone else after reading?" and id like to think that all my posts have been usefull and/or informative. i hope that no one felt that my posts were a waste of time.

Juat to clarify, I wasn't saying that people post too much. I started this thread because a new person to this forum got blasted by some others for posting too much and that topic ended up getting locked because it got brutal.

I think people should post as much as they want, but not if it's going to be a bunch of worthless garbage. Now to be honest, with Worlds so near, I've been making some posts that aren't all intelligent and well thought out, but they've been fun and in line with all the excitement.

yes I def. post a lot. I have been on the forum for a long time (25th to join). Today for example, I'm at work, it's friday afternoon, my work for the week is done, and I'm just counting the hours till the w.e. So to pass the time I log-on here, read, and post. Don't even leave my desk! I post less during the week-end, because having spent infront of a computer, you can imagine I have better things to do than to sit myself down infront of one in my freetime

I'm kinda like this too... I was 11th to join. I think that some people on this forum DO post too much, and it bothers me. But compared to flipsider, I think it's way better here, as far as people's posts. I can't decide what I liked better... the old voy forum where it was like less than 10 of us and every night we'd come back and see how everyone was doing, or here with so many people that are pushing the sport more. Sportwise I'd say now, but Social-Community-wise, I'd say voy.

EDIT: I almost forgot, I was going to say I probably post more at work too now... Friday afternoon, thank goodness.

Well if you're in front of a compter from 9 to 7 every week day for work, posting a lot becomes very very easy!
