Hey the Olympics have started!

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned it at all yet! Like most Australian's I'm sports mad so really looking forward to it. Especially looking forward to the 200 freestyle - Thorpe vs Phelps - Naturally Thorpe will kick arse and win with a world record!

The soccer will also be exciting! Also the free to air multi cultural tv station here has got rights to show the non "blockbuster" events which is really cool since they'll be showing lots of sports that Australia doesn't kick arse in - stuff like Handball - which is cool because I enjoy watching new sports.

well over all tonight's ceromony to the start of the Olympics was very intresting.

well im looking forward to the weightlifting event, boxing, basketball soccer and judo

The first game of women's indoor vollyball is on now. Cuba V Germany. I'm going for Cuba - although the Germans are looking good

What! No womens wrestling? While thats sure to be a very important event, i'm not very interested in it (unless all the women are hot...haha)

finally some good basketball on tv! we get no bball on aussie free-to-air tv which sucks, its a cool sport
im not really pumped about the olympics this time seeing as its not in australia hahahah
id rather be shredding

one day i will turn on the tv and watch 100 freestylers from dozens of nations tearing it up on a huge gym floor style arena with a massive crowd and commentators

one day...

The opening ceremonies were absolutely cool last night. The march of all competitors was impressive. You can see the difference, when some countries have only two or three competitors and some have like two hundred. Especially I noticed Australia, Germany and USA have a lots of sportsmen taking part.
The athletics are starting next week - and I'm already cheering!!

Go FINLAND!!!

EDIT btw: did you guys notice that there is one important game missing from olympics...

To be honest, the Olympics is just another sporting carnival that I can't really be bothered getting excited about.

Sure, I'll tune in every now and again, but concidering I hardly ever watch TV anyway, I'll just be for wallpaper and ambience.

Although I do enjoy watching the gymnastics. After playing footbag, I really appreciate the skill those kids have.

Did any footbag players make it down for promotional efforts? I imagine that there would be some massive crouds in lots of public places. It would be awesome to have some of the big multi-lingual europeans busting huge and handing out flyers in a parking lot.

I'm really pissed at NBC's coverage of the Opening Ceremonies. Whoever that guy was, he wouldn't SHUT THE FUCK UP.
He fucking TALKED during Bjork's ENTIRE perfomance and the unwraveling of that 30,000 sq. foot dress.

Oh, and then guess what? He talked during everything else, too!

Well Australia is off to a great start - kicking US butt in the pool. It was all happening to early in the morning for me to see - but I did watch the road race - which was very cool. I love watching long distance cycling. I thought Australia had a chance when McGee made it in the break away group of 6, but the other people in that group realised he would easily take them in a sprint and nobody really wanted to push the pace. It was a great finish - really close the whole way. Naturally I was going for the Portugese at the end, but the Italian did well - especially considering he was the favourite going into the race - so must have had a great deal of pressure on him. I was very impressed by the Italians in general - they were certainly the best team competing.

The 4 by 100m women's freestyle relay was also very cool. I'm sure everybody likes to see the US get beaten

Maybe we are watching different Olympics. I've seen one Australian metal(thorpe) and there was no US in the event. Phelps is still on WR pace.

The Australian womens four by 100m freestyle team finished first in the final. The US (who win that event almost all the time) finished second.

After realizing just how random the olympics are I'm dissapointed. There's badminton, weight lifting, and beach volleyball. Now I doubt the Ancient Olympian competitors did 2 of those 3.

ahhaaaa its going to be so exciting to see phelps vs. thorpedo in relay! tonight? i think?

i cant wait for track and field, too. those are my favorite events.
