Jeremy's Grilled Cheese on Toast Topic

Post by Jeremy »

I'm a big fan of cheese on toast and in experimenting to make the ultimate combination! I have a lot of different things I've tried, but I can't really remember all the details so I'll just post my recipes as I eat them. I want to hear other people's creations. Also toast sandwhiches are allowed too (grudingling)

Today I had two pieces of bread - both were thickly sliced pieces of my step dad's homemade white bread (that's about all I know about it) - baked yesterday I think. I think older bread is better.

Piece one - I started by putting one some homemade plum sauce. Then some Sambal Oeleck and some sliced Dill Cucumbers. Finally I topped it off with some "extra tasty cheese" and grilled for just over 4 minutes.
Verdict - I could barely taste the Sambal Oeleck (Which is a chilly sauce from South Asia I think) - so I need to put on way more. It looked very spicy in the jar so I only put on a tiny bit. The cheese wasn't very good for grilling - it's more biscuit cheese but it was the only cheese we had. Swiss cheese is the best. Still it was tasy and I'll give it a 7/10

Piece two - base of black bean sauce, then Sambal Oeleck and then "extra tasty cheese" grilled for the same as the other piece.
Verdict - not so excting. Maybe more of the Sambal Oeleck would have improved this. The blackbean sauce reminded me a lot of vegimite. 5/10

One of my favourites is baked beans on toast (it has cheese so is still on topic no?). Here's my secret...

Take bread and turn it into toast
apply a thick layer of English mustard to the toast
cover toast with hot baked beans
liberally sprinkle (sp?) with grated cheese, pref. cheddar.
put in oven to melt cheese
season to taste with tabasco and black pepper
enjoy

I also enjoy overly elaborate tuna sandwiches, mmm. But, I'll leave that to for another time.

The most important thing of your toast is the cheese. You don't want to
spoil all the fun by using mediocre cheese.

Swiss cheese is good, italian cheese is better. French cheese, however,
is best. (It's probably quite hard to get some good kinds overseas).

I recommend some greek or corsic Feta (sheeps cheese).
Mozarella is good for toast as well, especially in combination with
fresh basil and tomatoes.

Happy toasting!

I love the enthusiasm Jeremy has for the cheese sandwiches!!

But seriously, Erik makes the best grilled cheese sandwiches.
Simple grilled with cheese, but one time he put other stuff on it (like bacon and onions, and although I don't like bacon, it was appetizing even to me.)

But really, for me, Erik's grilled cheese sandwiches (along with anything else he cooks) is serious comfort food to me. It's always perfect.

Swiss cheese is indeed the best. Nothing comes very close to that peculiar flavor you get when it's melted. I'm going to have to try the beans on toast recipe, it looks great. Once I've had some time with it I'm sure I'll have come up with my own recipe. :)

Why not?

One of my staples on any (and all) sandwiches that I make is either;
a) Presliced Provelone cheese (Great for melting)
b) Chunked Havarti cheese (Great for anything)

These two cheeses are clearly the best cheeses out there for ANYTHING. They are so creamy and delicious, I don't think I could have a sandwich or salad without them!

Seriously, go try a grilled cheese sandwich with provelone cheese, you will never go back.

I use old fashion grill cheese methods.

Heat pan
Butter bread
Fry bread
Put cheese on
Put other slice on
Flip when golden
Eat when melted

Maybe I'm old fashioned. I think I may try Jeremys recepie tho!

my fav toated sandwich is the tripple decker ruben
3 slices of bread, i like french and rye best.
i slather the bottoms of the bread with garlic butter i make, just put some butter, fresh parsley and some minced garlic in a blender and season to taste. i put lots of thousand islands salad dressing on each slice, then swiss cheeze, lots of thin shaved corned beef, more swiss cheese, then saurcraut (sp?). i toss the bread first into a pan to sear in the garlic butter, then toss on the fixings, and huck the whole thing in the oven to get the cheese, melted and get every thing nice and toasty. assemble it after you take it out of the oven, slice up a dill pickel, and if you have some cabbage sitting around, jullienne it and make some slaw. best. lunch. ever. period.

Toast the bread and then put the ingredients on, or put it in a Toastmachine..

ok, I'm about to let you all in on my grilled cheese and cholesterol special

1) First bring put 6 eggs in a pot with enough water to cover them by an inch or so.

Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Let sit 15 minutes.

2) Melt down a slap of butter(1/4 cup+/- 2 tbl spoons) in the frypan. Cook bread 48 seconds per side on high heat to slightly burn and crispify the bread.

3) fry up some ham, bacon, sausage too if you like.

4) Rip the egss in half to extract yolk balls. Smear (crumble) the yolky goodness all over the bread.

5) Add cheese and optional meat, leaving the sandwich in an open faced configuration.

6) bake 350-400F for 15 minutes to crunchify the bread and melt cheese.

7) enjoy.

Sorry for the 2 post close together but here is a picture of the best damn sandwhich EVER!
Image

Made with:
My mom's hommade wheat bread (Baked yesterday)
Cheddar chesse
Feta chesse
Soft swiss chesse
Bread.
Plus, a glob of mustard, deil style.
(No meat since I am a vegtarian)

How I made it:
I put a little honey butter on one side of each bread. Put it on the stove medium heat. Since the bread was thick, I put the cheddar chesse on the pan for a couple of seconds to warm it up. Sperad the "Soft" swiss chesse onto one side of the bread and sprinkle feta chesse onto it. Put the now warm cheddar cheesse onto the other side. Smack them together and boom let them cook till brown per side. Due to the thickness of the bread. I heated it up in the mircowave for 10 seconds to let the cheesse melt. Pour myself a glass of cranberry juice and I was good to go!
I think I going to take over Canada. You should help.
