Post by Senor Grommet »

Was it:

B. Because of "moral" issues
C. Bush has abetter "plan" for Iraq
D. He was a good president the first time around
E. He was a better that the alternative

H. A combination of factors

Moderators, is it possible to have a poll set up with these options?

I think it was rigged and 100% fake, actually.

Do you REALLY think the people tugging bush's strings, who are effectively in control of the country would leave any possible window for them to lose? I think not. They made it appear as though Kerry was close so people wouldn't question it and also had bush win by enough to have him 'clearly' be the winner. If kerry won then all the Haliburton crap could have been ruined.

If they are willing to make a fake war they are willing to make a rigged election.

I think its simpler than all that, its the media and perception.

I find it very hard to believe that people who voted for Bush are informed with the same sources and same biases as the "blue states" and the international comunity is. If you were to watch FOX news you would see just how amazing a leader Bush is. As much anti-bush stuff we all hear they are hearing just as much pro-bush stuff.
Hell even Hitler could have seemed like a great guy on Fox news or similar programs. Hitler stood for what he believed in, he doesn't change his postion with the changing of political climates. You may not like his postion but atleast he sticks by it. Sounds like a good leader to me...

argh Jeremy confusion!! :?

I think there were two main things that played a part. The first was the enormous amount of propaganda in US media - which basically means that I think many Americans have very warped and ignorant views on what's really going on in the world. If you go to a website like http://www.democracynow.org/ - that's pretty much what Australia's international news program reports (sbs) and all the other news channels would mention some of those stories - and in an unbiased manner!! I am amazed how biased and misleading US news is. I try to watch it when I can - cbs seems like the most unbiased US news I have seen - but still has a long way to go. Fox and CNN are just propaganda machines - I really couldn't believe they could call themselves "news" the first time I saw Fox. I think most Americans are so used to that quality of news that they don't realise how much they are being controlled. I think a lot of people actually believe that the US is the most free and democratic country in the world.

I also think they don't understand what taxes actually do and the role of a Government - I don't think they actually understand the connection between health and education and paying taxes - or the links between poverty and crime and low levels of education. The US has almost dropped outside the top 50 nations in the world in terms of both life expectancy and literacy rates (life expectancy - 48th, Literacy 68th - in terms of developed countries - the US is 21st of 30 in regards to life expectancy and 27th of 30 in regards to literacy) - yet the US is the 2nd wealthiest country per person in the world. source

I also think that the International Community realises just how nationalist the US is. In most parts of the world - Especially Europe - Nationalism was destroyed with the end of Nazi Germany in the West and the end of the Soviet Union in the East. Most people in the world don't have anywhere near the same nationalism that the US have. So the rest of the world doesn't mind if other countries criticise their country so much. Many people who are opposed to things their government are doing actually welcome the criticism.

I think because the US is such a nationalist country - many people got defensive when they heard that other countries being critical of things like the war on Iraq and on terror. I think they reacted to this criticism by voting for Bush. I guess they felt that attacks on current US policy are attacks on the whole of the US and that they needed to stand up to these funny talking foreigners and show how much they supported their country

a staggering amount of voter ignorance.

Bush supporters were grossly misinformed about their candidate's position on a broad range of issues.
* 72% still believe that there were WMD's in Iraq.
* 75% believe that Iraq was providing substantial support for Al Qaeda.
* 72% believe that he supports the treaty banning land mines.

Facts don't matter to the faith based community, facts are just tricks God uses to seperate the believers from the "reality based" population.

In Germany, media told us that one reason for the reelection was bush's way of talking.

His attitude to tell things in a very understandable manner .

Simple words for a simple folk, I associate.

I wonder how stupid the average bush voter must be.

Of course it is quite difficult to look through the tactics of us media, but I guess for most of the us voters the most important is to have their own belly filled up to their throat .

That's interesting how German media reports on his style of talking.

So i'll do a comparison of several different figures talking-styles.IMO

John Kerry:
Sounds snobish, elitist, condescending, knows more about running your life than any common shmuck in fly-over country or "non-Hollywood California", even though he marries for money, likely incapable of amassing a fortune himself.

George Bush:
Sounds dumb at times, simple , straightforward... when he is not tripping over the English language. Rarely sounds condescending(in comparison to Kerry) to the general public, yet annoying to ideological opponents. Annoying when he repeats the same thing over and over, "...bring them to justice" <gag>, likely incapable of amassing a fortune himself.

Hillary Clinton: Shrill, voice could break glass,, phony, painfully condecending as her vocal style is to talk ve-ry slow-ly - as - if - we - were - all - in - the - 3rd - grade.
"Hel-lo - boys - and - girls, - my - name - is - Hil-lar-y."

Bill Clinton:
Master orator (that almost sounds kinky),Seductive, uses pauses effectively, can turn his tears or other emotions on and off like a faucet.

Probably the greatest speaker I've heard in my life, even though I thought what he said was total crap, he still sounded sexy. :)

To keep this short:

I agree with Jeremy that nationalism is dead in Europe.

Without having a little pride in your nation, and believing that your nation might be the best, your nation is probably finished.

Tangent:
Incapable of reproducing at even a "replenishment" level, Europe, Russia, the West as a whole is on death spiral.

And you are basing these views on what?

I didn't say nationalism was dead in Europe. You just need to watch a world cup soccer game to know that that's not true. What I said was that the rest of the world hasn't seen nationalism to the level of that in the US since the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany collapsed.

Do I need to draw you a picture?
