quickey questions

Post by skimhumboldt? »

Excuse my dumbassness but i dont really have the time to look all this up at the moment. anyway, Generaly how long does it take to sew a golfball sized 32? how deep is the thread from the edge("bite" i think its called), for sand and for pellet? How close together are you suppost to sew for sand and & pellet? and how much tension are you suppost to give it? The last couple of bags that ive made turned out really stif because i think ive gave it too much tension and bite, but any thing less than that ( my filler is sand) the sand would leak out horribly.

What kind of material are you using?

It takes me about 150 - 180 minutes of actual sewing to make a bag - but I never do it all at once. I heard that Richard Abshire makes a bag in an hour 8O

I tend to give a fair bit of "bite" - I don't have a specific measurement but I'd say about 5 or 6 millimetres - maybe even more (I suck with guessing measurements :()

I do three stitches per panel I think (I mean I know how many I do - I just don't know if you call a stitch going through once - or going through and coming back out)

The best thing I found is just to keep practicing - just like when you play footbag - keep schooling your skills and you'll definitly get better!

In such situations it can be productive to tell your defintion of a stitch

The bite, number of stitches and tension are all things that make each stitchers bag different from the rest. There are limits where the bag will become pretty gross after that, but experiment and discover what you like best.

i just finished my first 32 and i found that i didn't give it alot of bite, but i did make atleast five stitches per flange.(once through is what i consider a stitch)

Sorry my definition is going through and coming back out - so if you look at the panel joint from one side you can see thread three times. But on the other side there are two stitches and two - hmm "half stitches" - I'm not sure - like where I bring the needle through from a different panel.

Hey man, Is a flange a side?? Like a pentagone has 5 flanges??
If so, I would recommand you to do 3 stitches on each flange... 5 is a way to much!

3 of jeremy's stitches? or three of my stitches? if you read his stitch is in and back out again, my stitch is just once through the fabric either way. which means that he and I do the same amount of stitching to one flange either way.
