150,000 dead

and I'm not talking about the tsunami. Since dec. 26 150,000 people have died of AIDS in africa. In most of these countries, the governments have to pay more money on the interest on their debts than on health care. Indonesia is also a heavily indebted third world country (it owes something like 172 billion right now). People are talking about IMF and World Bank debt relief, and thousands around the world continue to donate money to tsunami releif funds.

i'm not saying that isn't a worthy cause, but i wonder why there isn't a similar outpouring of compassion for the (literaly, no exageration) thousands children orphaned every day in sub-saharan africa? Why are the first world countries still blocking cheap aids-drugs via patent laws? A couple years back I saw Stephen Lewis (canada's AIDS ambassador to africa or the UN or something) give a speech here, and his description of the devastation in that country was heartwrenching. Something like half of all girls between fifteen and twenty five have AIDS, many of them infected because they were raped, or their husbands refused to use protection when sleeping with infected prostitutes.

I'm very VERY pround of Mandela's admission that his son died of aids, considering the stigma attached to it there. Just thought i'd throw these thoughts out there, and see what anybody else was thinking.

Simply because it doesn't get the exposure in the media like the Tsunami
incident does. Suddenly everybody's donating to far east Asia, while Africa
is suffering for ages. You don't really hear much of Africa if you don't invest some interest. But people in general are comfortable, their
knowledge is based upon what is fed to them - mass media.

I swear it is because of the caucasian worlds dislike for brown people!

We don't mind them yellow....the yellow ones usually just stay out of our way....but the second they are brown, they get the full brunt of our agression. Or conversly....are completely ignored in their hour of need.

Now to hate on catholism!!! Yay!!!

Adding to the problem is the Pope of great popeliness.....chillin' down round the vatican....telling millions of people all over the world to not use condoms!!!

North america and europe are affected by aids...but not even a precent of the effect the condition has in africa. All the white catholics know not to have sex when they have aids, while undiagnosed africans are encouraged to spread the disease through the non-use of condoms.

Wouldn't it just be wonderful if all those nasty brown people killed themselves??? We can't be blamed for a disease! Then we wouldn't have to continue our social and economic oppression......and are hands are clean.....not to mention we get to exploit their continent once they are all dead!! Corpses make great fertilizer.
