Thom's footblog

Post by Thom »

Hey all.

I'm using this to check my progress and try to make some progress in footbag and just to gather some thoughts pre or post shred. And if you guys want to add, any tips and thoughts would be greatly appreciated! :)

Hmm so me, Well 17 and from Northern Ireland so I am indeed a lonely shredder. Currently playing in lavers and bag of choice is my abshire 32.

I currently feel im at a '2 add barrier' so i can hit twos and the occasional three but am working on my pixies and getting longer two add runs.

Just had a really great session! Do you ever find the when you want to go out least you often enjoy yourself the most. Weird huh?

Im starting to hit my butterflys well both sides now but am still getting really fustrated that near the end of a session and especially after a long run my legs just seem to stop working. They just get tired and really heavy and slow. I've been trying to hit DLO but by the time i get warm enough and have hit legover>legover (rep) and mirage>mirage (rep) to warm up and school the movements that make up a dlo my legs just feel really tired. Thus i never seem to gain enough height to pull it off.

I've been working hard on my pixies and am starting to get my set consistently at chest level now. Couple more days of that and i really want to start a second dex and hopefully open the door of 3 adds. JOY!

Now to just stay motivated and try to squeeze in a couple more sessions this week!

I knew it! I knew there had to be a footbagger in Ireland. So good to finally be proven right. Seems like you've got the right idea. Check out the challenge threads and find out some more drills to do.

And yeah. . The whole motivation thing. That's big. Especially with the level of play you're at right now (I would know. . I'm struggling with the same things) and with few people around you. Good luck too.

Yo Thom !
Ever tried pixie legover ? Should be no problem for you, sounds
like you have a decent set...so bust out a pixie, doesnt have to
be chest high excatly in this case, plant your setting foot quickly
and do a leg over with the other leg.
Bamm, a nice double dexing 3 add, and its so much easier to learn,
imo than double legover .
Anyway, pixies are the way forward !

Lol, Thanks alot guys. Yea there is a shredder in Ireland i just dont know if there are anymore. There are a couple listed on .org but i've got no replies from any e-mails.

Motivation is my biggest downfall, I played for three months solid around a year ago and then just quit for nine months not learning any new tricks or even schooling old ones. But thanks for the support guys and I'll get busting those pixie legovers in no time.

Thanks again!

YEA!

Just had a great session and i really needed it after the crap rugby training i had straight before it.

I had a good warm up and strectched well indoors. I went through my basic drills and was feeling good. And after a few trys I hit my first ever real three add (pixie legover). Thanks NuR for the confidence to try and hit it. I also gotta thank Antoine Whitney and hagesy's posts on .org that gave me a kick up the arse and some tips on how to get going again.

Score!

see you guys later...

yeah double legovers really aren't that worth trying yet. I kick with a guy who has been playing for three years and he still doesn't hit them consistantly and has been trying them forever. There's just something about it.

how are your alternating clippers and all that?

Yea both of my clippers are good. My flipside was weak for a while but now both sides are feeling really solid.

I still havent hit it flipside, i find it easier to fairy flipside than to pixie on my flipside but thats something im gonna have to keep working on.

No session today but hopefully i'll be able to squeeze one in before work tomorrow.

later guys...

Low key session today. I really tried to take on Hagesy's advice and my flipside pixie and basically all my flipside moves. I was pretty shocked how inconsistent i am on my flipside and really just need to school it for a week or so before i begin to learn new moves again.

I think my biggest problem is playing in school and with friends because there i just hit strings that im sure of involving only my strongside and my best moves.

So i think my goal for the next couple of weeks is to hit a 25+ contact titltess VARIED run. (lol just reading hagesys advice from .org, its exactly what he said to...thanks mate!)

Anywho, hopefully I'll get in a decent session tomorrow and spend a couple of hours schooling that flipside and increasing my run lengths.

6/3/05

Unfortunately yesterday i could only squeeze in another short 35 min shred before work. Just stuck to schooling my flipside mirage and pixie and have made some drills work on these.

Today

Had a decent hour and a half session today and i really needed it because the rest of the week looks really doubtful cos of work and im playing guitar in a concert for 3 nights this week aswell as rugby lol.

But back to the session today. I'm really feeling the difference in my flipside, I'm hitting 5 mirages in row both from clip and toe where two days ago i couldnt do any! My flipside pixie is also going well im starting to hit it pretty clean and high but still not as consistent as i would like it.

Drilling has really started to make my runs longer aswell and its fun to hit the same trick both sides and just linking them all together without having to think so much.

Something really weird happened though near the end of my session my strongside clipper just quit working. The bag just kept rolling off. Man it was fustrating but its just gonna be one of those things i gonna have to keep working on.

Anyway hopefully i can get a couple sessions again this week.

Yea i don't mind being busy, if only my girlfriend saw it the same way! Lol. Thanks for the encouragment on the flipside im actually starting to enjoy schooling it now.

Anyway, Man i needed todays session it felt so good. It's weird how one short session can change your mood and your outlook for the rest of that day.

My flipside mirage both from toe and clip have really come on and for the first time i can smoothly link them into a run. I also spend alot of time working on my butterfly and am starting to get a clean set from it into a mirage from both sides.

Next on the agenda is getting flip pixie going so i can PLO both sides and work on pickup. I've never really looked at it beforebut i want to get it down to keep my runs varied instead of mirage and far legover everytime.

Next session should be on Friday before work but i'll keep working at some 'quiet' drills.

No rugby today so i got another session.

Didnt have a great day and i let that mood carry into the start of my session. I found my clippers rolling and just not being able to complete a run of any length. I took a short break and made sure this mood didnt carry through to the second half of my shred.

From then on i played alot better. Drilled my flipside which is getting steadily better, hit pixie>pixie 9 times. Not all that impressive but its definately progression. Starting to hit mirage and far legover from my butterfly with some consistency.

Also hit two new tricks which im pretty happy about pixie clipper (both with the setting foot touching the ground and without) and pixie ss mirage? (i think thats right.) Had a pretty nice run today hitting PLO midstring for the first time.

Gotta keep building on this and should get a session in tomorrow.

Until tomorrow...

Just had a pretty fun wee session at a free classroom in school. I've noticed one really annoying thing though. When I'm playing in trousers after about 5 mins when im warm enough and feeling good to hit some decent strings my trousers just stick to my legs! Making any dexterity really hard, lol.

It just wasnt fun letting the bag drop on things a knew i could easily hit and in front of people.

Ah well, hopefully i'll get some drills in after school.

Went for a low key session today to try out my 'knofler' sandmans that came in the post today.

Really focused on my pixie both flip and strongside as well as my mirages again. I'm really starting to enjoy my pixie sets and hit two new tricks of it today, Pixie butterfly (first 4 add :D ) and PLO on my flipside. Feeling really good about my flipside PLO now and hit PLO>PLO a couple of times which felt really nice.

My flipside mirages are really up to speed now but am still struggling with timing on my pixie mirage although i can hit pixie same side mirage. Tried Pdx Mirage today and hit it both sides. It felt really great to hit a new trick both sides in the one session, proof that working on my flipside is paying off.

Really pleased with todays session and am really looking fwd to thursday cos im off for 2 and a half weeks SCORE! (plus its st paddys, lol)

8O oh man. That's awesome! Was it pixie ss butterfly or pixie butterfly? Parkwalk and dimwalk (respectively). SWEET! I'm glad you're already both sided. I'm living proof (but not the only one) that not working on a flipside early on is murder.

Yeah there's a St. Paddy's celebration at my college here on monday and there's going to be pipes and drums and GREEN MILKSHAKES (WOAH!). I'm rather excited for that. . . I like milkshakes. And my name is Pat. So it's almost like I'm IRISH! . I think I'll pretend I'm a step dancer and play footbag for them. All you have to do is do a lot of smears and clippers and keep your arms at your sides and BAM! You're an irish dancer. Alright that's enough.

Excellent with the new styles and tricks. I bow low to you.

props on the new tricks thom. Being bothsided gives another dimension to your game.

Thanks for the support you guys really keep me motivated :D

I hit pixie butterfly so dimwalk and it sounds like your gonna have a more Irish St Paddys than i am. I've got a wedding to go then im off to work for the rest of the day, lol. Hagesy I'm gonna to australia from the 30th of June to end of July. I havent got a schedule for it yet but it would rock if i did have time for a shred.

Hmm...
Todays session wasnt so fun, was feeling stiff and tired and was finding it hard to hit anything. Just really tried working on getting the intensity of my shred higher by really going at legover>mirage (rep) and working on flipside butterfly as im finding butterfly> [opp] butterfly really difficult.

So new tricks or runs but im gonna set myself some goals such as PLO>Pixie ss mirage>pixie butterfly etc for the end of Easter.

Happy kicking
