Jon's Trip To Miami Short Recap

Post by jon »

…. So two Fridays ago I was at work with my buddy rob and we hadn’t yet decided what to for our school's spring break (reading week for us Canadians’) and the break started the next Monday. Typically we get a bunch of the compsci boys together, drive up north, crash at a friend’s place, drink, party, and dig a great big hole in the snow.

Now this is pretty fun, well by our standards at least, but this year had to be different since this is our last year of our undergrads :( . So we decided we needed to something different, something crazy, and something fun. We thought about going to New York city which would have been fun but cold, instead we decided we needed to go someplace warm. So Rob says why not Miami, I say “Ok”, and then four hours later we are in a car with two other friends on a 2400 km drive to the tip of the United States of America.

I don’t wanna bore people with too much info since you don’t know my friends and our adventures are of little interest to most people but key points to mention.

- The $110 us speeding ticket we got on the way down. 6 am in North Carolina going 150 km (no idea how many mph).
- The Palmetto bug I stepped on a few moments after entering our hostel room
- Rob losing his license and 80 us dollars in the Atlantic ocean after having gone to the beach for only 20 minutes
- Alcohol
- Walking
- Sun Burns
- Swimming in the Ocean
- Footbag!
- Almost going to a gay club (never ask boutique owners where to go for a night on the town)
- Lots and lots of driving.

So the drive there took about 25 hours both ways. We went down Friday night, got there by saturday night. Left on wednesday and got home thursday. That includes stops for food, gas, and redbulls  . Once we got across the Florida border I got a call on my friend’s cell phone from Dan Klokow. He says someone from modified phoned him and gave him the number I posted on the forums, I did this like 5 minutes before leaving Guelph :p. Thank you however helped out :P . We agree to meet up to shred sometime during the week and we continued our drive down to south beach.

I think it was Tuesday that Dan and I meet up for some shred. One of my buddies Chris, who also came to worlds with me, joined in too and we had a nice session for a couple of hours. Dan is a super cool guy and an awesome shredder. He told us stuff about Miami and we talked about Footbag ect ect. Some sick runs were had by all and it was a lot of fun. My friend took a short video with his digi cam but its like 10 megs and only 30 seconds so I wont bother to post it. The session reaffirmed what I love about footbag. The ability to go someplace new and meet up with new people and finding out how cool everyone is that plays footbag. Its like a word community of friends even if you havnt ever met them in the past. After the session in the nice weather of south beach (mmm the weather was great!!! Much better then Guelph weather :x -10 c.) we jumped in the ocean for a bit and then chillaxed on the beach. A great way to end any footbag session if you ask me :P
The rest of the trip doesnt really have to do with footbag so I will just leave those parts out.

The trip was a lot of fun and I am sure it will provide lots of great memories for years to come.

PS. A few pics from the trip.
