STICKY BEGINNER TIPS

Post by Muffinman »

I was thinking it would be nice if all the quintessential, generic advice given to beginners on the forum, could be found in one EASY TO READ sticky thread in this forum.

It would be nice if all posts were formally structured, with proper punctuation, spelling, etc. We could have a thread (maybe this thread) where people either copy old posts, or write new advice, to the common beginner. We could vote on which are the best, and could put them in a single thread with only the BEST, most concise (yet encompassing), advice posts. If the post is poorly structured, we could agree on a manner in which to revise it so it is easier to read.

What are your thoughts?

One thing that helps me is to slow everything down in your mind. Your first thought is to do everything as fast as you can.

You need a calm cool attitude to learn the basics. Speed can come later when you have to learn double dexs and shit like that but until then do things smoothly and calmly. It will help keep your endurance and control.

Im still new to this sport and it seems whenever i struggle with easy tricks its cause im frustrated and tired and that always leads me to rushing tricks and being sloppy. So stay relaxed pace yourself (especially when solo) and think smooth and steady in your head.

Practice both sides (of all the advice i have gotten this has been the most important, It dont take long to notice a solid both sides player and the strongsided/strongfooted limited player)

Its not easy and its not fun but do it. I would suggest to start with ATW out-in and in-out BOTH SIDES.

-types of freestyle bags

-yes, shorts are better than those raver pants
-support the sport (not a bad thing to brainwa- uh, I mean instill into aspiring footbaggers, I think)
-shoe modding
-bag repair
-landing that first trick is worth all the frustration leading up to it and is better than orgasms
-survival guide to your first footbag event
-begginer terminology, jobs notation, why we look at you funny when you ask if we want to 'hacky'

See its one thing to call Getting into a circle and trying to get "hacks" or play hit it twice then blast games hackey sack.

But when you become very pasionate and put alot of time and work into footbag the last thing you wanna hear someone say is your playing hackey sack.

The word footbag has more of a profesional sound to it, We spend hours a day/week schooling these difficult tricks to be reffered to as a hacker. WTF dont i need to be on a computer to hack.

Its like the somehow the general public has decided to change the name of the sport and no matter what we say or do with our FOOTBAG they call it hackey sack.

Its silly, trivial, but yet so annoying to hear people kind demener you for how you spend your spare time. Especially from people whos idea of a fun time is to sit on there fat ass and watch tv. This is personal due to a few people who do nothing constructive or outdoors making fun of me for being pasionate about Footbag (now they use footbag in a sarcastic tone)

So yes zeke is correct try and use footbag, shred, kick instead of the hack and exct.
