That's pretty much exactly what happened to my left knee. It was just a bunch of stressed tendons that got really inflamed. I quit playing for about a month, and for a week I was on 3 doses of 600mg ibuprofen a day, which helped a lot. Just don't play, ice it, take a lot of ibuprofen to get the inflammation down.

I think it is sad that people are having knee problems at such a young age as a result of footbag. Please take care of yourselves guys. If your knees start hurting, then stop playing and let them heal. If a certain move hurts your knees, then modify the technique or simply take them out of your game for good. There will come a day in the not too distant future where you won't be playing footbag and you will have much of your life still left to live. You don't want to have arthritis in your knees when you are in your 20s... That's a long ass time to have to live with that. Footbag is supposed to be fun and it inspires determination, but you must listen to your body when it says something is wrong.

Joe, if your knee still hurts after a week or two then I would suggest you go to the doctor. The sad truth is that knee injuries can easily require surgery and rehabilitation to be fixed. Hopefully this is not the case with yours, but it is not something to be taken lightly. I wouldn't play on it until if feels 100% better.

Thanks for all the caring , I have been taking 800 mg doses of ibuprofun a day and icing it every day and it is already feeling much much better than 2 days ago , I think I just over worked it and it got tired , This has happened to me before but not so severe , I think It will be fine , I think 2-3 weeks will be a good break time , As a result of my right knee being poop at the moment that gave me a chance to school left toe sets. I have just been wearing pants when schooling them , but I started the injury not being able to do a flipside fairy set , Now after 2 days they have gotten way better and my left toe feels much stronger , I got a flip fairy set chest high and in pants , So as a result of my right knee injury it makes me school flip sets which I need to be a good freestyler , Thanks so much for caring it makes me feel good , im out later

my knees are in pretty bad shape. after intense sessions they hurt pretty bad and I notice bruising showing through my skin. It is not the knee itself or the sides, it is that strip of tendon right below the knee that runs along your shin for 2 inches or so. Are there any strengthening exercises for that area? It may be cartiledge but i am unfamiliar with that part of the knee so i am unsure. Any advice? A long break from footbag is starting.

you could be like me, the randallizer, and just play through your injuries  and not only play through them, go as hard as you can

I had major pain with my left knee, exactly as kevin described, tendons inflamed and what not. I should have stopped for at least a month. The longest I got was 20 hours, then it was an all day pain-inducing sesh. I just kept playing, as I couldn't stop, and now the pain is gone. Funny thing is now my right knee is starting the same pain, in the same place, well mirrored of course.

All I can say is don't be like me and keep playing. I can't stop and I'm starting to lean towards footbag as a now "unhealthy" addiction. But I'm young, stupid, and having fun.

EDIT: I have a theory as well. I think the more you play with an injury, the less your game will progress in the long run. Sure makes sense, but what I mean is by playing injured, your lowering your level of total progression

ie, you will not get as good as you would have playing injured as if you just waited a month to recover then play again, although you had a whole month more to progress. The injury time will actually deteriorate your progression compacity, despite the extra practice

I think that's why I have been playing for around 3 years and I feel that I should be sooo much better than I am. If I just would have waited a couple times, I could have been the next Joey Polish

Kevin, that sounds like the same problem I had. I never had the bruising, but my knees usually felt sore and stiff after a session. I think what happened was that my patella tendons (that area you described) were degenerating due to too much stress. Pain would arise anytime I tried flexing my quadriceps, go up/down stairs and whenever I tried jumping or landing hard - pain that felt as though something was being ripped of my kneecap :? .

I've been taking supplements for a month and started stretching my legs for about 15 - 25 minutes a day for about a week. My knees are great and I feel as though I'm getting back into the flow of things.

My knees started hurting a few months ago. I'm not even playing footbag right now and I don't know how they started hurting, but I went to my doctor and he said I was born with, like, a worn-out knee-cap or something @_______@ I think what he said was to compensate I have to build up my hamstrings? Or something -- the ones that run behind your knee -- by cycling on a high seat, or anything that doesn't require a lot of bending at, or pressure on, the knees.

I had that problem a while ago too, and my doctor told me to do pretty much what b-man said. Stretch really well for at least ten minutes before you start kicking, and it can help a lot to stretch for the same amount of time when you get up in the morning. Oh yeah, it also helped for me to put some good insoles in my shoes; I had taken out my rod laver insoles to make the shoes lighter, but I use sof sole cushions in my shoes now and it helps take a lot of the impact away from my knees. Peace.
Today is what you make it. So, like, don't screw up the recipe. ^^

yeah, mine is exactly as byrin said. it hurts to jump, land, etc. i stretch it out all of the time and i've been taking glucosamin chondritin & msm supplements for two months or so. I stretch constantly everyday (esp. before kicking) and massage my knees a few times a day. some days my legs feel incredible and so I shred (still stretching beforehand and afterwards)and then my legs are dominated for a few more days. then the process repeats. I'm going to try cycling and doing knee strengthening exercises from Hood's website. thanks for your prompt replies. This has really helped
